Read the thread. They already have. Someone linked an article.

I'm confused... what made them Jewish? If they don't actually do anything consistent with the religion, as if they were actually following its beliefs, then they aren't Jewish. Having a family history of such is not a definition of being that.

Does this article actually say anything about them actually being Jewish or is it just about their family history?

Judaism is one of those religions where you can be born 'jewish' regardless of what you actually believe. As far as I know, it's inherited on your mother's side. That's the traditional view anyway.

People also talk of a 'Jewish People' too, as if they were a separate race like black or caucasian. I don't really know enough about ethnicity to know if there is an actual difference or what the ethnic origins of the group were.

Most neo-nazis refer to Jews (and hate them) as an ethnic group. So I would guess that "finding out they're Jews" would mean finding out that they have a Jewish ancestry in this context.

I agree. If you learned that your grandparents were Nazis or Communists or Mafia hit-men does that mean that you should uphold the "family tradition"?

According to the religious law you are Jewish if:
You convert
You are born to a Jewish mother

They were ethnically Jewish but obviously not religious.

Mafia have their own code about what makes one a Mafioso.

Good one. I am very tolerant of every belief, religion, ethnic affiliation, sex preference, etc. so it serves them right, trying to label people.

I imagine that if they were neo-nazis then their erstwhile compatriots would apply something akin to the original Nazi race rules, which would make them "Jewish". The Nuremburg laws and their application bear little real resemblance to any sensible way of determining "Jewishness". Just saying "But I don't do Jewish things." wouldn't have saved you from the showers back then.

Hmm, I don't think it's the Neo-Nazis' labeling people bit that others have a problem with. Also, you seem to be very intolerant of Nazis. :P

I'm going with the confused people here, I can understand them no longer being neo-nazis because of how Jewishness (sorry, don't know the word) is determined, but why suddenly convert to the religion? That's the part I don't understand.
