I heard reports of over 100 foot waves swallowing whole areas, buildings ablaze. 700 casualty's and counting. Power plants destroyed, buildings , whole towns and it's expected to be continually inundated the rest of the day with aftershocks and more tsunamis. I heard that hundreds of thousands of acres of trash also is being swept ashore from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Trash courtesy of the US

^Woah that looks like hell or something.

It's things like this that make me glad I live in an uneventful, temperate country who's idea of a "natural disaster" is heavy snowfall. Although you don't know what could happen, we can't predict what the earth does no matter how hard we try.

Don't be too complacent Monkey. The UK gets earthquakes too. The last one, a few years ago, was so bad that someone's chimney pot fell off. 8O

Seriously though, my thoughts are with all those affected by this.

I feel bad for the people in Japan and I hope that they're doing okay. Japan is a beautiful country filled with history and the evidence is in the buildings and temples. I hope that the people along the coast and in the rest of that nation get all the help that they need.

Hey, living in Osaka here. Only got some aftershocks- maybe a 4 on the Richter scale.

I've been sick for a while now with a bad sinus problem. For like a month. I was sitting here in front of my computer when I suddenly felt very dizzy. I thought it was my sinus stuff acting up and getting worse. Then my body started shaking back and forth which really freaked me out! It was like Parkinson's or something. I stood up to see if it would continue and I saw myself swaying in front of the mirror. I was trying to hold myself still and couldn't! God, it really scared me. I thought for sure I was having some sort of neuro issue and would need to go to the hospital. The rest of my apartment didn't seem to be moving, only me.

It's terrible to say I was relieved to hear there was an earthquake. But wow, crazy footage on the news of what happened up north. This picture is really freaky:

Yeah, I remember those. Still, some parts of the world would love to have just a chimney pot fall off.

I have been saying that this month will be bad for natural disasters.
i just hope nothing happens to the west coast of USA, and i sure hope that yellowstones seismic activity has nothing to do with these earthquakes and tsunamis, if it erupts, then well. goodbye everyone.
i hope nobody else gets hurt and this calms down.

First waves have just hit Hawaii. I'm watching the news right now. I hope my fellow WP members in the ring of fire are safe.
They have just reported at least 200-300 bodies found on beach near Sendai, Miyagi Japan have washed up. Japan is getting aftershocks of 6.0 or larger.

That is what happens when people live near the water.

Or they live in countries that are prone to this kind of natural disaster.

We don't generally end up with earthquakes in the British Isles and for that we should be grateful.
