He shouldn't have revealed it- the publicity associated with the whole fiasco just made Republican/Teabagger birthers look really, really stupid- it was the best kind of campaign publicity one could ever hope for. Obama didn't need to do anything, or spend any money; every single thing the birthers said basically turned those with half a brain against Obama's opponents and sapped their intellectual credibility.

But apparently, since its release, the Birthers have actually redoubled their efforts, with lines like, "Well, I guess now we know how long it takes to make a credible forgery," and demanding that the original document - not a jpeg, not a copy, the original document (which may or may not even exist any more - paper isn't forever, you know) - be examined by at least five leading Tea Baggers before they will concede it might be real.

In other words, they're coming off as even loonier than before, and now forcing Republican leadership to either disavow them (and give up their political support) or commit to them (and give up the political support of the sane). It's hard to maintain a fence-sitting position when the document is right there in front of you, after all - weasel-words like "he probably was born here" or "I take him at his word" don't fit the data.

Actually, I believe this is the real document, and I never said that I didn't believe that he was born int the U.S.A. However, I have repeatedly stated the differences between a certification of live birth and a birth certificate. Now people may actually believe me. I also believed that Obama was using this controversy as a political tool. I'm glad that he has finally done the right thing.

Of course he was. Why tell your enemies when they're making mistakes? Though the Birthers were of course using this controversy as a political tool themselves, though overall I feel it backfires on them

Right now there is no evidence to base claims of forgery on. Nobody has had time to compare it to other birth certificates from Honolulu that were issued close to that time and nobody has had a chance to do forensic tests on the birth certificate. Historians might always wonder why Obama hid his birth certificate for so long and let it be a big deal for nothing.

No, there will probably be time for it to blow over. If he waited to disclose it until sometime during the 2012 primaries that might have been a different story.

Still don't understand why he didn't release it earlier unless he actually wanted the rumor to persist.

But yea, now for his college records

He should eat a pork chop on live TV to dispel any further Muslim rumors

Hey, didn't Trump promise to release his tax records if Obama released his birth certificate? I think someone's afraid to be outed as just a millionaire, when he was claiming all this time to be a billionaire!

He didn't hide it. He didn't have it. The state of Hawaii had it. I suspect he was a bit busy for the last 2.5 years doing something, but I can't think what that might have been.

A true blue Muslim is permitted deception if it is in defense of Islam. Thus a Muslim could eat a pork chop with a good conscience if his situation required it to defend himself (as a Muslim).

Neah I doubt it. People will just say it's fake.

And I have seen it before. It was on fact checks about politics and even my dad had heard about it and people still said it was fake so I assume it's been mentioned in the past in the media.

Is the policy cupboard so bare that you have nothing else to talk about in your political discourse?

You are facing an unprecedented fiscal and monetary challenge and you are wasting time and effort on this subject? Has American political discourse truly reached this juvenile a state?

In short - yes. And I indict myself in that, too.
