The Travoltas had religious objections to the use of medications, and were not motivated to kill their son. All indications are that they accepted him and shielded him from scrutiny from other scientologists. However without having him medicated and not having emergency meds at hand, there was nothing they could do to save him in time when he went into status epilepticus. It was foolish of them, but falls short of being criminal.
