I think you have a right to complain your vote changes little, but it isn't futile.

If anything is to get done in this country we need a better educated public (the media almost always fails us,) less lobbyist influence and less corporate control.

I doubt many would be treated like Socrates in a true democracy. Is this pre- or post-Renaiscance?

The corruption and entertainment you speak of happened after the republic-era of Rome. It was the emperors that made that commonplace.

A pure democracy wouldn't work ant better now than it did in ancient Athens since it would still effectively be mob rule and still wouldn't have any safeguards from keeping laws from being passed that would undermine the democracy until it no longer exists.

You wouldn't want "true democracy" Under "true democracy" your rights would be gone inside of a year. Speech which offended the majority would be outlaws.

You are better off living in a Republic, rather than a Democracy.

Under Athenian "Democracy" Socrates was sentenced to death because he p*ssed a lot of his fellow Athenian off. Is that what you want, really?

Socrates drank the hemlock around 399 b.c.e.

I would say that was very pre-Renaissance.

In a system where Government employees have a third of the vote, and no one outside of the two party system can run, they vote their jobs.

My guy won, I voted for Putin. He is the only man who can keep our local madness in check.

It will not matter for long, because the hole of self serving government is deeper than Greece.

Hemlock is a quick out, I look forward to hitching a team of Congressmen to a plow, and making them productive.

According to Ibn Khaldun, now is when taxes have to be doubled to keep the government running, which kills the economy, leading to taxes being doubled again. He was right every time so far.

Also, QE3 will reduce the value of money by half, so it is not like getting ahead. The thing is, we are all sinking, but they are in the boat.

Corn will be worth more than gold.

That is rich! Just don't put Barney Frank behind other congressmen. Put him in front.
