No. They will simply say we made a mistake and recalculate their end of the world date.

Fundy Christians do the same with Book of Revelations End of Days predictions.

They never give up their nonsense. Ever.

I think the Mayans got tired of making calendars and stopped at 2012.

Seriously, though. No one here in the States has any common sense.

Actually, the Mayans never predicted the End Of The World -- they just ran out of room to continue the calendar.

(Oh, look! My Snoopy calendar ends on December 31, 2012! The late Charles Shultz must have predicted that the End Of The World would occur on New Year's Eve!)

I have $5 riding on the bet that within 24 hours of the non-event, b'leeverz will claim that Doomsday was averted by some act of spiritual devotion.

Not exactly. The Mayans viewed their calendar as a "pie" with 12 sections, from what I understand. (If you look at the roots of the Zodiac system, the same principle is at work-the Greeks divided space into 12 sections, named each, and then claimed that people born under a certain "sign" would have certain qualities.) On December 21, the 12th "piece of pie" runs out. The key that people miss, is that there's multiple pies. We simply start in on a new pie on December 22. The ancient Mayans had zero concept of "the end of the world", that is actually a Jewish/Middle Eastern concept, and has been superimposed on the Mayans. The Mayans tried to predict stuff like droughts and floods, but they didn't think the world could "end". Far East faiths such as Buddhism find the concept equally alien.

Not exactly...

Yes. Exactly.

Your explanation is only more detailed than mine.

Bottom Line: No Mayan Doomsday Prophesy.

Tell that to the Millerites and other assorted Fundy madpersons.

Those lame brains are constantly looking for signs of the End Days.

If there is a day for the end of humanity, it will likely be caused by our own stupidity. The Earth will recover as if it just fought off a bad virus.

They aren't playing with a full deck ruveyn, it wouldn't matter which religion they were associated with, they'd still have a screw loose.

I do believe one thing and that is that the times are a changing very quickly. Maybe we soon will have some sort of age of Aquarius at least a change of collective consciousness.

Those particular fundies are making their own doctrine. A lot of groups are watching for the end of days, but when they claim to know a date, their credibility is shot!

...and Millerite eschatology is...well...odd...

Then when the world didn't end on 01/01/2000, they quickly decided that the Romans hadn't had a Year Zero and the beginning of the new millennium was 01/01/2001 instead!

NASA is just as wacko, proving it will not happen.

The Myan calender is based on the Sun Venus Cycle, 52 years. A hundred of those is 5200 years, The Long Count.

Five Long Counts measure the time it takes till the Sun is in the Mouth of the Serpent, the dark spot in the Milky Way.

This happens every 26,000 years.

This is called a Sun, and we now come to the end of The Fifth Sun, and the 22nd is the day One Reed month One Reed, that is the first day of the Sixth Sun.

They count time from some start 130,000 years ago.

The thing that fits is, modern sapiens, who first appear 130,000 years ago.

Also, each Sun has something, a name, flood, fire, ice, and this one is said to end with something in the air.

Besides the procession of the Pole Star, also 26,000 years, there are a series of mile wide craters that fit a 26,000 year timeline, and it is when we cross the Galactic Plane, where a bunch of junk collects.

There are several craters for each date, on land, and four out of five would strike the ocean. This left a clear record going back to the Salt Pan Crater in South Africa 225,000 years ago.

Picking a known one, Barringer in Arizona, 52,000 years ago, the force involved was 1,000 times the bomb used on Japan. Mauritania, 26,000 years ago is the same size, which turned the hottest recent period into the deepest ice age. From the same time there are marine deposits reaching the top of the Appalachan mountains, like one big wave that came and went.

Feathered Serpent is the God who ends the Sun. Who flys down to earth and makes a nest. It young fly back into space. In Europe and Asia, Phoenix or Dragon is the name in the stories, same behavior.

NASA should read more.
