Some of the movies he hated have become classics.
Such as Full Metal Jacket and The Thing.
He always impressed me as being a little too concerned with his image.
But he knew film. When I read of him doing a presentation of Citizen Kane such that anyone could stop the movie so a certain scene could be rewound and scrutinized, I wished I could have been there.
