I wish they'd throw vigilante social reformers at the problem instead. And vigilante teachers, vigilante infrastructure developers, vigilante business startup funders etc.

neither. Mexico's government cannot control it's own country, basically what they legalized was anarchy, since there is no government everyone is responsible for organizing and maintaining the cartel held parts of the country this is completely necessary. I think it's funny that no one is characterizing this a corporatist revolution. Essentially corporations; the cartels, have evicted the federal government to pursue free market capitalism in the niche market of illicit drugs.

Crime and drug abuse are merely symptoms. Fighting the symptoms instead of the disease is a pointless waste of resources. The disease can only be cured by improving public education and infrastructure, as well as socio-economic opportunity and equality.

that was 40 years ago. Now the paradigm has changed and cartel violence IS the social norm. You cant have better schools when they are getting showered by rpgs and there is no food.
