For those who haven't seen this, this has to be the greatest dealing with a bully video ever:

I lived in Texas for five years and in elementary school, I was bullied. But did the bully get punished? No, I did. No one wanted to believe me. They would rather believe the straight A students who also found the time to bully people. I was in in-school suspension multiple times because no one ever listened to me.

The bullying I encountered that still ticks me off when I think of it was by the principal of my elementary school, not another student.

I used to get in fights all the time. All it took was to call me a name or pick on me in any way and I started swinging.

So one day, I think in 3rd grade, the principal marched my entire grade down to the city park four blocks from the school. There, he had everyone in the class form a big circle that effectively blocked the view of anyone driving by and put boxing gloves on me and the most athletic kid in my grade and made us fight. Once the fight was over, he marched us all back to the school to return to class.

As near as I can figure out, the entire point of this was to try to stop me from fighting back when being bullied.

That would depend on the individual Aspie.

Well----you didn't finish the story..... Who won the fight----and, did it make you stop fighting?

I lost, of course. Considering that I was the youngest and smallest kid in my grade fighting the most athletic kid in my grade, it was inevitable.

It didn't stop my fighting. In 12 years of public school, I got into well over 100 fights. And never won any of them.

Not necessarily inevitable. If you'd kicked him in the nads I bet that would have been a game changer.

Kicking the principal in the nuts would have been great. I'd have probably got whipped and may be expelled from school for a while, but then news of what he had done might have gotten out and got him fired.

A lawsuit would have been nice, but we could not possibly have afforded it for other reasons. Money was so tight at the time that when I got "branded" (fell on red hot metal that had just been cut with a cutting torch leaving a large scar the length of my forearm that was still bright red more than twenty years later) we couldn't afford to see a doctor.

That's a load of BS.

If you truly believe that, then please don't ever come here -- you won't be missed at all.

I have to agree with eric76, I have lived in Texas twice for several years at a time and its a great place with wonderful people.

Don't be the victim of Mainstream Media "selective reporting" brainwashing. All major news outlets in the US have a decidedly left-leaning slant and they cherry-pick stories (and facts) to give you a very skewed and inaccurate impression of what's going on in the world. That includes FoxNews, which mainly regurgitates stories from Reuters and the Associated Press - their Conservative posture is just window-dressing.

The entertainment industry is the same way. Learn to read between the lines and look for the lies and the wording that gives you impressions that are not objective. Modern journalists can't spell or construct a proper sentence worth a damn, but they know how to choose adjectives to pluck your emotional strings, so you perceive things the way they want you to see them.

I agree with eric and willard -- please don't swallow wholesale the BS that is said about places you've never personally been or experienced. While there are bad and disagreeable things about anywhere in the world, and bad policies anywhere you live, what people never get to hear about Texas is how great it is and the good side of people and life there. Not everyone there is what the rest of the country (and the world) thinks they are.

Also, Texas is not the only place people ever get bullied....bullying is universal, and can and does happen anywhere.

And not all of Texas shares the same "culture" socially, psychologically or otherwise.

It might surprise people, but when I was a kid, it seemed like the more "ranch cowboy" a kid was the less likely he was to participate in bullying.

I can't remember any kids who wore western shirts and cowboy boots to school every day and went home after school to help on the ranch that ever bullied anyone. I'm sure there must have been some, but I sure never met them.

That's because they couldn't burn energy doing senseless crap, they had to get home after school and burn that energy tending animals.

Actually, I was referring to the big kid you had to fight but the principal deserved to have his nuts cracked even more so for making both of you fight.

I think it is quite common. I've known a few short people who had really big chips on their shoulders towards big people.

---

I'm not sure how accurate this is (I've heard it two different ways), in New Orleans years ago, some short guy felt slighted by a rather tall and large guy and challenged him to a duel. The big guy just laughed it off but the short guy persisted.

The big guy finally accepted the duel. Since he was the one who had been challenged, he had the choice of location and weapons. So he chose to have the duel in water six feet deep and to have anvils as the weapons.

Granted. I had had a friend from high school who had a severe case of "short man's syndrome." He had to ridicule and demean anyone and everyone in order to build himself up. Needless to say, the rest of my friends and I eventually stopped talking to him, and just lost touch.
