This actually perfectly described what I was going through, right now.
I'm in high school right now, and I only have about 4-5 friends (I think, I'm not sure if they consider me a friend), and everyone else hates me, makes fun of me, thinks I'm odd or a freak, and/or doesn't really know me.

I'm actually doing a survey where I go up to people and ask them "Do you know what Asperger's is?" Only about 10 of the 54-55 people I asked and three of those who knew were teachers.

So, I'm on a mission to spread the word of Asperger's and what it is.
(Expect a post or blog dedicated to this)

I've told friends I thought I had it, but they don't believe me. Think I'm just being a hypochondriac. But I'm a recluse, so they don't see neough of me to realize how much it fits.

I wouldn't go around advertising it like that though, thats like setting yourself up as a target.. I do that on my own too much without realizing it to do it on purpose.

The part is that I don't tell people that I have it.
I usually say that like someone in my family has it.

I too won’t tell anyone that I have AS. The diagnosis is more for helping me understand myself, and less for me to use as an explanation to someone else. Use your analitical skills to help you understand your actions, then work on adjusting your future behavoir for the better.

As for ABC's decision to air the story, it wasn't about trying to help people with AS. The reason they did it is that it might grab the attention of viewers. Same reason that all the newsmedia are mentioning a certain condition that the VT murderer was said to have.
