All of our trees lean toward the East, too. Oh, wait; that's a *good* thing!

It is a culture shock to be anywhere else... Do not know if it has his charm... but it is home.

They'd fall into the Pacific!

I don't know a whole lot about Christianity. I'm an agnostic myself. But would it be considered a sin to participate in a gay marriage in some way? What views do the various Christian denominations hold on these issues? If a Christian does provide a wedding cake or other services to a gay couple, are they sinning according to their religion?

I think that this is something that isn't really being rationally discussed, at least from what I've seen. I usually see bigots saying things about how gay people are disgusting and unnatural, blah, blah; or I see people saying that all of these Christians are bigots.

So in my opinion, this should really be discussed without all of the name-calling. Because if they honestly do feel that it's a sin, how can it be worked out so that they can practice their religion, and at the same time not be given the freedom to discriminate against people whenever they want?

I feel that there's got to be some kind of middle ground. Religion in the United States is probably not going away anytime soon. I think that people should be allowed to practice their religions (within reason). I don't personally agree with their beliefs, but I think they have the right to have them regardless.

At the same time, people shouldn't be allowed to use religion as an excuse to discriminate against other people. There are all kinds of things that people don't like only because it makes them uncomfortable. I think in many cases they are using religion to justify discriminating against those who make them feel that way, or whom they dislike. How many people really don't like gay people because they think homosexuality is a sin, compared to those who don't like them just because they make them uncomfortable, because it "grosses them out" or something?

I just don't feel like there is an answer which is fair for everyone.

IMHO the religious people who tell me i'm going to hell because I don't worship the way they do, are hypocrites in that they would judge but not be judged. it is like they never read that thing in the bible about first removing the plank from their own eye so they can see better to remove the speck from another's eye.

I agree with that. Not all religious people are like that, although it seems like there are a lot of them. I know some who are like that, and some who aren't. They are very different groups of people.

The ones who aren't just try to do what they think is right and leave people alone. I never hear them preach to other people and they definitely don't go around telling people that they're going to hell.

Unfortunately the ones that we hear most about are the loud-mouthed hypocrites.
