umm almost every news outlet on the planet has published his faux pas so it's a bit rich trying to label all of them "tabloids"

The article reported Michelle Obama broke the same protocol about touching the Queen first. Now imagine a President Biden :D

Trump is fairly unique in insulting his hosts.

I would think liberals would have more of a problem with antiquated stodgy protocols that make someone out to be a sacred demigod, rather than getting emotional if they're broken in the slightest way. Then again the Windsor's are called the biggest welfare family in the world so maybe that explains the attraction.

Most of the British population are happy to subsidise their living expenses so it's affirmative welfare

Most of what are now considered to be "time-honoured and antiquated" traditions and protocols originated in the time of Queen Victoria... not all that long ago. The present royal family are basically the same "royal house" the Saxe-Coburgs (they only changed the name due to WWI).

We used to have this thing called the Divine Right of kings... which more or less meant that if you harm or depose a king you're offending God... that's very convenient if you happen to be the king. Try reading Shakespeare's "Richard II" for more on that one.

Still plenty of people in the UK who believe the Queen never farts.

Do you think if the monarchy continues long enough for William to become king, a lot of that will be done away with?

I think the Brits will embrace the German dynasty that's the Sax-Coburg-Windsors
KIng William or Der Konig Wilhelm

Away from the liberal fantasy one.

Most people in the UK now have never known any other monarch than the current Queen. There is no doubt that she has behaved herself, upset very few people and done the full "duty" thing without frightenening the horses. When she dies it will definitely leave quite a vacuum. Charles is not universally liked. He's been outspoken at times and some people will never forgive the Diana thing. He's trying to say now that with mantle of kingship he will adopt a different more kingly persona... maybe he will.
William, on the other hand, hasn't been around long enough to f*** up. Who knows how he will turn out?

It seems likely that the ways of the monarchy will change with the demise of Elizabeth. Things move on and it will be truly interesting to see how things turn out.

I'm an anti-monarchist, but I'm also interested in history. This is future history in the making.

That is if she actually ever dies. Same with Philip lol. There could be at least 7 more years of QEII if she has her mother's longevity, which seems likely.
