Lightning loves things that stick up in the air in a phallic shape, such as church steeples and many statues.

All those lovely positive charges just waiting to meet some negative ones in a spirit of mutual attraction... no wonder love is described as a spark!

Unfortunately it does, we lost a friend that was walking across an open field and was struck. He was tall and skinny, sort of like a walking lightning rod.

I'm so sorry that happened.

Best is always to head indoors at the slightest sign of lightning. There are apps you can get that tell you when its getting near - I use it so I can log out and switch off my desktop if in use. My friend is even more aware of lightning and tells me not to stand so close to the door to watch it.

The meteorologists here tell everyone to head inside as soon as they hear thunder.
“ if you hear it, fear it.”
It can strike from miles away.
They also warn people about crossing low water bridges when they are flooded.
“Turn around ,don’t drown.”
But people don’t listen very well.

So true.

When I lived in Malaysia we regularly had tropical storms and the sound of lighting hitting lightning rods and reverberating onto the metal sheeting roofs was like an explosion with sparks.

When I was living there in the early 1990s there was a group of kids playing a soccer match and three kids were instantly killed by lightning because they were sitting on the metal frame of the soccer nets which acted like a lightning rod. People were also warned about using umbrellas with metal tips during a lightning storm, plastic was preferred.

Clearly the weather was racist
