Ham radio operators are the good guys. Our Icoms don't explode. We're not terrorists.

Although Kevin Mitnick was a ham radio operator.....

Ok I guess the Lebonese government will be banning the sale of these products (regardless of Hezbollah using outdated models)
Does that mean average citizens can return their ICOM devices and receive a refund?
Hasn't it already been established that these were knock-off versions of a device long since abandoned by the OEM?
Isn't it already clear that these were booby-trapped devices intended to hit a specific target?
Why then should Icom be expected to refund anyone?

Do try and keep up.

Ah Top Band - happy days hunched over my AR88D, when I nearly went for my amateur licence but was distracted by many shiny things.
Huh - story of my life.

If this happened in Australia then the company would be compelled to call back all their devices (even authentic ones) for checking.

So a sabotaged, known knock-off of a device once made by a company means that all their devices, even those no longer made, are now subject to recall?

Okaaay... :?
That makes no sense whatever.

The origin of the term is disputed. Theories and folk etymologies exist. One is “ham” originally had the same meaning as “ham-handed” like “Able is a professional telegraph operator while Baker is ham-handed”. “Ham” in this context means “amateur” in an unflattering way. Other proposed origins are initials of a particular early or noted amateur radio operator, or perhaps a call sign.

Ham radio now has a largely neutral or positive connotation.

Regardless of origin . . .

Ham radio refers to amateur radio, a hobby where licensed operators use radio frequencies to communicate. These radios operate across various bands, including HF (3 MHz to 30 MHz), VHF (30 MHz to 300 MHz), and UHF (300 MHz to 3 GHz), allowing for voice, Morse code, and digital communication.

Ham radios are designed for shared use among operators, meaning multiple users can access the same frequencies while adhering to regulations that ensure minimal interference. Licensing is required, ensuring that operators have a basic understanding of radio technology and communication protocols. This collaborative environment promotes community engagement and experimentation, making ham radio a unique and enriching hobby.

“Ham radio” may refer the community or the equipment used by such.

Trying to fight the injustices of the modern world is like painting a sinking ship. Hopeless.
