I happen to be an expert on Scientology.

And it's a load of crap, take it from a professional!

L. Ron Hubbard was a failed sci-fi (as distinct from science fiction) writer, who decided back in the '60s that writing would never get him rich, but founding his own religion would. He tossed together a hodgepodge of silly crap that would have been laughed off the pages of Thrilling Wonder Stories in 1921, glossed it over quickly with a sheen of pseudoscientific terminology, and managed to dupe a bunch of people into swallowing it wholesale.

It's about the only thing he really succeeded at in his life...

This is 100% true.

Tom Cruise is an idiot. I'm sure neurosurgeons, physiatrists, or philosophers don't count ANYWHERE in there. If physcology is a pseudoscience, then what are they?

trues. TC is an idiot.

This group is a cult, that was created by a science fiction author. it mostly tried to get status as a religion to get the tax breaks that religions get.

He's antipsychiatry, not antipsychology, so he opposes the way that mental conditions are treated. So he does have a point if we're talking about the JRC or places like it.

yeah, but when it comes to everything else in psychiatry he is full of crap. eg what he said about Post natal depression. that all u need is vitamins and exercise. total bull. depression is a real problem that needs more than that.

Vitamins and exercise do help. But they are not the be-all and end-all. Helping talk about the causes of your depression, might help too.

Absolutely. And I'm the authority on protractors. I've got one around here somewhere, I think. Don't use it much, but I can kind of point it at things. Fear my curve drawing ability.

I fear your protractor more. They tend to have pointy, sharp bits.

Nah, it's plastic. A metal compass, however, is something to fear.

I tried reading their Bible "Diuretics", or something like that..;) What a load of codswallop..;)

They're a bastard marriage of Amway and the fringes of any religion.

Their leader has all of his drinks covered by plastic wrap (to prevent poisoning), and carries a loaded .45 everywhere he goes (except airports, I suppose...;)

One actor in the past tried to get out of the church, and found his mailbox filled with poisonous snakes.

Elron Hubbard has published more stuff after he's dead than anyone dead except maybe Jimi Hendrix..;)

And the only time I ever felt like apologizing for being an American was when I saw them set up a booth in Florence, Italy...

I read some 10-book Sci-fi story of theirs back in the 80s, it was like cotton candy; massive-looking, but not very filling stuff. They feel about psychiatrists as 17th Century Catholics felt about witches...
