Opening up a can of worms topic

Is this what is meant by a Diet of Worms?

OMG 8O My bowels exploded with laughter when I read this one.
A bellyfull of BS.

I feel sorry for any child(ren) involved. I hope they received prompt medical attention. Castor oil or even snake oil would be more appropriate cures. I hope the curbies are satisfied; they opened up this pound of cure thing.

I also feel sorry for the worms. I hope the WP member with the can of worms avatar protests.

Some intestinal worms provide a kind of symbiotic relationship by absorbing a portion of heavy metals in the intestine. However this looks to be total BS and quack medicine. How come in places where people eat a lot of raw fish and are far more likely to have intestinal worms, there isn't a lower rate of autism (I'm never eating sushi after seeing what the stomach of a dolphin looks like).

I'd never heard of this guy either till now.

You could say it just like the one guy off of the intro to the Pretty Tony (Ghostface) cd

"Hey Ghost, there's this little known insurance company out there called AAFFLLAAKKKK!! !! With the ----IN DUCK!! !"

fits this guy great ;).

my spidey sense is tingling here... here's a guy who joined this board just to post this site, he's made two posts total and both of them link the site...

I'd bet my left nut that he's the owner of said site, trying to increase his hit count by spamming it on the boards, and trying to hide his involvement by being mildly critical...

I hope youve got anesthetic handy.

I'm not the owner of the site. It's true that I joined just to post that link, but I've known about this site for a while and the only reason I hadn't joined until this week because for some reason, perhaps just my computer is old, whenever I come to this site and a Flash-based ad pops up in the side, it slows my browser down to a crawl and makes it difficult for me to get to any other websites. Even the cursor in this text box is lagging. I regret having installed Flash on this PC; it wasnt worth the sacrifice in computer speed just to be able to get to sites like YouTube.

I spend most of my time on the Zompist Bulletin Board, and you can see my post history here. I also posted this same thread on another autism site and got a reaction so hostile it surprised even me. People from the ZBB had told me to beware of the anti-cure fanatics on this board, but nobody had warned me of the desperate-for-a-cure fanatics over there.

"Fanatics". Such an ugly word. :D

How come you didn't say so before? There's gotta be a few other people at Wrong Planet interested in matters linguistical besides me.

You don't say which browser you're using. ATM I'm running Firefox, which I wouldn't have bothered with, except that Skype and IE7 won't play nicely with each other; not on my computer, anyway.

Sorry for the cynical reception. One tries to keep an open mind and all that, but there are too many unscrupulous people out there who wish to profit from the misery of others. I for one have had a gutful, if you'll excuse the terrible pun. :)

I'm on Firefox, but the same thing happens on all browsers ever since I installed Flash. It's just a really old computer. Just now, I tried telling Firefox to save all Flash files to disk instead of trying to load them in the browser, and since then, no Flash ads have come up, so maybe the site is detecting a non-Flash-capable computer now (even though other sites with Flash still are attempting to load the Flash ads). But if this works I might start to become a regular poster here.

You're all more than welcome at the ZBB. I've brought a few people with AS over the board myself, but none of them have stayed for more than a few posts, so I've kind of stopped evangelizing for it.

Hi, I came across this post while researching TSO (trichuris suis) use in autism. I have read Stewart Johnson's site. Many of the things Soap claims is false. SJ does not claim TSO cures all forms of autism. His son is treated under the care of a physician. He noticed his son lost many of his most troubling symptoms when he had chigger bites, and hypothesized that the chiggers were regulating his immune system. He thinks that some of the symptoms of autism, actually one domain of autism, are caused by autoimmunity. He said while his son no longer practicing self-abuse (smashing himself in the head), he is still autistic. He actually helped get a clinical trial of TSO for autism started and didn't go public with his website until the trial started. This is the very best scenario for autism treatments. Many are publicized with absolutely no science behind them. And it is well known that PANDAS causes OCD/psychosis, and responds to treatment that modulates the immune system, like steroids. Perhaps his son has both autism and PANDAS and the TSO is mostly affecting the PANDAS. Many autistics have immunodeficiency that could lead to autoimmunity such as PANDAS. Helminths have recently been proven to help people with MS. These are people with no gut symptoms. The worms release chemicals into the bloodstream that affect the immune system. They do this because they co-evolved with us and wanted to shut of specific parts of the immune system so they wouldn't be thrown out of our bodies.

I am not trying to promote this therapy, just wanted to correct the inconsistencies put out there by Mr. Soap.

My background: I am a self-diagnosed Aspie with OCD (also have a child with PDD). Many of my aspie/OCD symptoms/characteristics are beneficial to me. Many are not, such as my constant desire to pick at my face until I have sores. I have researched many biomedical therapies (most I have decided against because they don't have any science behind them). I have recently decided to try trichuris on myself. I hope it helps me with my troubling symptoms and leaves the rest of my brain wiring intact, as it did with Mr. Johnson's son. I would much prefer to have a probiotic worm which causes me no symptoms than to take a pill such as a SSRI which does have scary side effects. Wish me luck.

I am sorry, science or not, that still grosses me out.
My crystal ball says that curing autism may well become a billion dollar buisness like curing fat people

Anyone who agrees to take that is stupid, anyone that forces that on someone that cannot consent should be prosecuted.
