Yes a new neutral pronoun might be considered , as long as I can still Pronounce it ? Think basic lifelong language traditions might be tough to Alter. "BUT " then there are Aussie-isms could just call everybody Mate ..? its a friendly term i think ? depending on context ? :D And do agree conceptually with Goldfish,s post few posts up there

when you said "mate" i realized you're onto something there. i think perhaps the language minders need to think more flexibly about existing words, perhaps a sniglet of "ma'am" and "sir" might be "Mir." that's it, yea- that'd be the perfect pronoun.

The British/Aussia "Mate" is second person. Not third person. It just means "you" (which is already gender-neutral in English). And also it's usually used by males to address other males. Equivalent to 'bud", 'bub', or 'dude', in the US. No use whatsoever in replacing the third person pronouns in question: 'she', 'he', or 'her', or 'him'.

Locally media here in the US has Australian female Goldminers using the word mate in refering to other woman miners as well as normally the male gold miners in Australia .And possibly third person could be such as " that Mate over there" .??
Am only offering thoughts on the topic.

Doesnt solve a thing.

Because it is STILL second person, and not third person.

For second person its good. So you dont have to answer the phone with 'mam, or sir'. It would just be 'mir' (rhymes with sir).

And ...if you ever had occasion to talk about mermaids, or mermen, you could just refer to them as 'mir mirs'. :D

I assume that you are talking about the English language practice of grabbing third person plural pronouns (which are already gender-neutral) and using them as makeshift third person singular pronouns to avoid gender. Like using a butterknife as a flat headed screwdriver.

Saying 'them' or "they' for 'him/her'.

I dunno.

Maybe drop the T, and say "hem" or 'hey' instead of them or they?
