Regardless of whether it's right to get rid of the statues, or if they can really be considered art ... what really troubles me is that the pro-removal folks seem to believe this will actually do some real good for their cause and improve race relations in the U.S. If so, they are going to be bitterly disappointed. This won't change anything, at least not for the better. They're taking down historical monuments and putting nothing in their place but more divisive rhetoric and social unrest.

First, the public land the statues are on are often very major places, like the county courthouse lawn. The sensibilities of the statue worshippers must be salved by leaving them there always? Are all statues left where they were initially erected forever?
Second, while I guess I may not have been strictly accurate - I was just relying on your description of what you saw on TV ~ I do think that the people visiting the former statue sitesprobably don't live neat there, generally.
WHY DON'T THEY OFFER THEIR BELOVED STATUES A NEW HOME? On private land.
Privatization is a core conservative virtue, no? Margaret Thatcher would, no doubt, agree .
