Chick-fil-a and the homophobic sandwich
So it isn't reasonable to tell the WBC, for example, that you can protest anywhere you want, just don't do it at funerals?
You do realize there's only one ground zero (for 9/11) in the entire world, right? How is it unreasonable to say 'not there'?
Again, for what may be the hundredth time - the people who want to build the Islamic center in New York aren't meaning to hurt anyone, but are legitimately expressing their rights as Americans. The Westborough Baptists, on the other hand, are expressing genuine hatred for gays, soldiers, even the mentally handicapped, etc.

All of which is as legal as it despicable.

In case you hadn't noticed a lot of people on the Right think the Westborough Baptists are a bunch of idiots (well guess you didn't notice, because you get your news from ONN (Obama News Network).
I will further point out that if the Westborough Baptists get too close to the funerals, they can and will be arrested. Plus, as far as I know we didn't see a bunch of Baptists flying those planes into the World Trade Center...
Kraichgauer, the reality is you and others like you want to make Christians, Jews, and other Conservatives into 2nd class citizens.
Fact of the matter is, that outreach center's purpose wasn't to be a memorial, it's purpose was to gloat over the fact that we lost thousands of American lives. If you had a clue about World History, if you had studied the Middle East, you would know that!

No, the WBC cretins didn't fly a plane into anything. But neither did the people who want to build an outreach center. Not every Muslim is the same, just as not every Christian or Jew is.
And as far as wanting to make Christians and Jews second class citizens in America - last time I checked, my family and I are Lutherans, which most would agree are Christians. Seriously, that charge runs counter to everything I believe.
But let's cut the crap, and get to the real point of all this Islamaphobia. From even before he was elected, idiots were claiming Barack Obama is really a Muslim, in order to make him appear an unfriendly outsider. Forget the fact for a minute that he attended a church that the same people had described as a radical black nationalist church (the Congregationalists are in fact a predominately white denomination), and has since moved on to another Protestant church. Even if the President was a Muslim, you conservatives in your alleged expertise of the constitution ought to know it maintains there shall be no test of religion for holding office. But the right's hatred of the President has become so rabid that they've come to believe their own lies, which has mushroomed into this coast to coast hatred of all Muslims.
At least admit what this is really about.

Kraichgauer, if they were really wanting to build an outreach center as a form of memorial, then they would have respected the wishes of the families that had lost loved ones on 9/11. WBC does what they do to offend people and get attention. The Muslims trying to get that center built were behaving similarly to how WBC commonly does, maybe not quite as blatently, but that was how they were behaving.
Added to this that it is common in Islamic tradition to immediately create a Mosque in an area where they just conquered and it being the site where a bunch of radical Muslims had just flew two jumbo jets into the WTC.
When you look at those two things in conjunction with each other (and there is more proverbial datapoints which further support what I'm saying), fact of the matter is that "outreach center" was not intended to be a memorial, it was intended to serve as the new mosque over an area that they just "conquered."
Doesn't mean you still can't hate Christianity... You just don't include the people you immediately know in your hatred.
This is about common sense...
If you study Islamic Law you would know that if your father is a Muslim, then you are supposed to be a Muslim. If Obama isn't a Muslim (and his father was), that is grounds for him to be killed under Islamic law. Does the Iranian Christian man ring any bells, he was slated to be executed until international pressure finally caused the Iranians to back off (partially to buy more time for their nuclear program)... Fact of the matter is, the people claiming that Obama is a Muslim are being quite rational, there are facts that would support that assessment. I personally think he's a left-wing partisan hack whom worships at the altar of big government and is an anti-semite.
If I remember correctly the stuff about Obama being a Muslim was actually started by Hillary supporters, that said there is information that would give a rational basis.

Just because Obama's father - who Obama had only met once in his life - was a Muslim, that means he should be? And that convoluted reasoning makes the Obama haters who call him a Muslim rational? If that's rationality, I can only assume that I've somehow been transported to the Bizzaro planet! As a matter of fact, CNN had asked Muslim scholars if that's so, and they all answered that it was not. I'm going to put more trust in CNN's research than in the hate filled fantasies of Obama haters.
My maternal Grandmother's family name was Abramovske. Does that make me Jewish? In my humble opinion, it does not. Nor am I self-hating Christian, as you have charged, just because I'm concerned with the civil rights of Muslim Americans.
And Obama Antisemitic? C'mon, you've been throwing that charge around for as long I've been reading your posts on WP. Show me how he has shafted Jews as President. In fact, he has several Jews working in his administration. Show me how he has ever taken the side of Muslim countries over Israel. In fact, people in the Middle East believe Obama is Anti-Islamic - particularly since he's stepped up drone attacks on radicals, and killed Bin Laden, and has time after time taken Israel's side. Again, the claim that Obama is Antisemitic is yet again a right wing paranoid, hateful fantasy.

This. All the rest is a bunch of silly partisan nonsense.
If they (the ones specifically supporting this mosque, not all American Muslims) had honest, reasonable intentions, then they would have backed off when it became clear that many people disliked the idea and found it disrespectful.

Actually Ancalagon, if you study Middle Eastern History, you would realize that the rest of what I said was not partisan nonsense.

Ah, you are a naive young man. Those people pushing for the Islamic Center right in the same neighborhood as Ground Zero are sticking their thumb in our eye. You do not have a keen sense for contempt and insult. I, who practice contempt, contumely, disdain, low regard, loathing and dislike every day am well away of the various forms.

Regardless of wether those wishing to build the center intended it as some sort of victory monument, that is probably hoe those who supported the attack would see it. You would think they would be sensitive to that.

It was until the real core of this got exposed, which is that apparently some people think that bigotry is okay, as long as it is directed towards Christians...

No one is directing bigotry toward Christians - rather it's about exposing bigotry hiding behind Christianity. For the record, Muslim bigots hide behind their religion much more often.

Liberals use "political correctness" to hide their bigotry, what's your point?
