This is the sh*t I face too. One day you think it's gone but the next evening it's back. This happened several times already and a new appearing herpes two days ago told me that the immune system is still down after weeks and I'm not yet over it.
Take vitamin C every day once you get a cold now to prevent an inflammation! Rest more then you would normaly do in case of a cold. Then it becomes not a very big thing.
To feel like you don't get any air once you are breathing isn't nice. But worse is an inflammation that fills your lungs with pus. Suffocation isn't fun. :skull: :|

Mine doesn't. "The war" is still WWII here, great evil never to repeat. The current situation is called "the pandemics".

I think the reason for the war reference is that in the United States, the president is using war time laws to resolve the matter.

I was thinking along those lines when I said it's like a war. It's like a war going on locally as far as being a citizen goes. Like when London was being attacked during WW2 and there were curfews, rations, restrictions, blackouts and so on.

Absolutely right.
And the constant anxiety: what’s next?
We are now given procedures how to bring delivered food into the house.
The streets are empty, where I am accustomed to seeing walkers of all ages; very few bus riders, the town is spooky.
The tables and chairs have been removed from the Starbucks in my local grocery store so that no one can sit down, even for a minute.

I have heard Trump say on TV the words "this is a war against an invisible enemy" several times.

There have been a couple of times like a minute ago when I look at the world meter and think "wow it's starting to get bad" and then of course realize I am looking at the whole world, not just my country. Even if those stats for the entire world applied to just the US I would still consider it not all that devastating.

Look at the history of military dictatorships.

Saying this, people congregating in large groups on the beaches during an epidemic is ridiculous.

Because of some people's selfishness, Australia has shut down bars, movies, gyms, etc, to force greater social distancing.
These selfish individuals, the ones who went to Bondi beach in Sydney and bars and nightclubs in Melbourne, ignored the recommendation from the PM, and as a consequence, caused these shutdowns of certain businesses.
Well done. <slow clap>

Doesn't bother me in the least, personally.
My lifestyle hasn't really changed at all.
But they have done enormous damage to small business, and as a consequence, to the economy.
Selfish buggers. <sigh>

Nope. I tried to get one. All sold out.

But I don’t feel weak like I have a moderate fever. I feel like Im recovering from the flu....albeit with a little coughing.

Your wife is a nurse and you don't have a thermometer?

Can she get one from work?

That seems crazy to me.

Kraftie That seems a little strange to me too. I did't think there would be a run on thermometers. I discussed the issue with my daughter. Generally they use two types of thermometers in the hospital. There are digital thermometers that can take a reading from your forehead and from your ear. So in general, these are the types used often. But then they use oral thermometers that take readings in the mouth. They have disposable coverings over the tip to keep it sterilized.

I went to Amazon and looked up the external type. I found one called "Forehead Thermometer, 4-in-1 Professional Precision Digital Thermometer with Fever Alarm, Forehead and Ear Thermometer for Baby Kids and Adults Surface". It was listed for $105.99 I am not sure if this is a reasonable price or not. But one of the criteria I was looking for is a thermometer that has a high degree of accuracy.

One of the reviews for this product wrote: Altogether, I am a happy customer and I recommend this product.
I have been using the traditional digital thermometer so far - the one with a metallic prob on one end and a digital display on the other. That was a progression from the good old mercury thermometer and I was happy with it. We had some guests over during the holidays and one of the guest fell ill. That person showed some uneasiness to use our existing thermometer since we used it 'in mouth' (Yes, we did wash it and disinfected it after each use. It was just the guest was a bit too picky, let's say.). I went to nearby Costco and bought a Forehead thermometer there. And the experience was horrible - every single time the temperature varied on the same person. And it was not accurate also - we compared it against our existing thermometer reading.
That experience took me to Amazon and based on the reviews, I bought this thermometer. Biggest attraction - it can double up as an in-ear thermometer as well. Following are the biggest advantages:
1. Accuracy - I tried both forehead and in-ear readings and compared it against our mercury based digital thermometer and it was accurate. I found the in-ear readings more accurate.
2. Consistency - When I tried repeated readings, they were extremely consistent. Similar to the accuracy, in-ear readings were much more consistent than the forehead readings.
3. Ease of use - It is the same sensor which is doubling up as the in-ear prob and forehead sensor. The design is such that you remove the lid, it becomes suitable for in-ear use.

So it sounds like it will be accurate. It is scheduled to arrive between 2-10 April. Will it arrive on time? Will it be accurate. I will let you know when I receive it.

Don't worry about where the money for that two trillion dollar stimulus is coming from. They will just eliminate social security to make up for it. Presto problem solved. Oh and expect your taxes to go though the roof.

It’s pretty expensive for me. I can tell if I get a high fever. But thanks for the research.

I'm sure your wife could borrow one from work for a night. Or borrow one from a friend for 24 hours.

The less expensive ones will be available soon enough, I hope. You should have one on hand.

Well, she says the hospital won't take her unless and until she needs a respirator. So I'm screwed. Even by following such protocols, she can still spread it.

How will she know when she needs a respirator? Does she have a pulse oximeter at home?

Not quite sure I understand. Are you saying she is already on oxygen (tank), like someone with COPD?

One of the reasons I am coping with this situation is that I have lived most of my life, psychologically speaking, in WWII, war-torn Europe.
Things are bad with this pandemic, but nothing like what people had to go through during that period.

Some are starting to say the stoicism of the Brits, in particular, through keeping morale high, is a myth.
Singing, huddled in the shelters, while the bombs were falling, was fanciful.
I am not convinced of that.

I remember reading how, nearing the end of the war, German soldiers/civilians were making the joke:
"Enjoy the war, the peace will be dreadful.

Humour is a coping mechanism for many.
I don't have a problem with that.
Who would have guessed?

The Brits were stoics during WW II—trust me.
