Emergence of a Deadly Coronavirus
The figures in the article are hypothetical but the example of South Korea is not. They did the "hammer" part: agressive testing, tracing and isolating; they are doing the "dance" part: adjusting partial restrictions to the situation.

This is the advice given to hospital staff.
It explains the virus and hopefully, how to prevent getting it.
Please share with family, friends and work colleagues.
Virus Detection:
The simplest way to distinguish Coronavirus from a Common Cold is that the COVID-19 infection does not cause a cold nose or cough with cold, but it does create a dry and rough cough.
The virus is typically first installed in the throat causing inflammation and a feeling of dryness. This symptom can last between 3 and 4 days.
The virus typically then travels through the moisture present in the airways, goes down to the trachea and installs in the lungs, causing pneumonia that lasts about 5 or 6 days.
Pneumonia manifests with a high fever and difficulty breathing. The Common Cold is not accompanied, but there may be a choking sensation. In this case, the doctor should be called immediately.
Experts suggest doing this simple verification every morning: Breathe in deeply and hold your breath for 10 seconds. If this can be done without coughing, without difficulty, this shows that there is no fibrosis in the lungs, indicating the absence of infection. It is recommended to do this control every morning to help detect infection.
Prevention:
The virus hates heat and dies if it is exposed to temperatures greater than 80°F (27°C). Therefore hot drinks such as infusions, broths or simply hot water should be consumed abundantly during the day. These hot liquids kill the virus and are easy to ingest.
Avoid drinking ice water or drinks with ice cubes.
Ensure that your mouth and throat are always wet, never DRY. You should drink a sip of water at least every 15 minutes. WHY? Even when the virus enters water or other liquids through the mouth, it will get flushed through the oesophagus directly into the stomach where gastric acids destroy the virus. If there is not enough water, the virus can pass into the trachea and from there to the lungs, where it is very dangerous.
For those who can, sunbathe. The Sun's UV rays kill the virus and the vitamin D is good for you.
The Coronavirus has a large size (diameter of 400-500 nanometers) so face masks can stop it, no special face masks are needed in daily life.
If an infected person sneezes nearby, stay 10 feet (3.3 meters) away to allow the virus fall to the ground and prevent it from falling on you.
When the virus is on hard surfaces, it survives about 12 hours, therefore when hard surfaces such as doors, appliances, railings, etc. are touched, hands should be washed thoroughly and/or disinfected with alcoholic gel The virus can live nested in clothes and tissues between 6 and 12 hours. Common detergents can kill it. Things that cannot be washed should be exposed to the Sun and the virus will die.
The transmission of the virus usually occurs by direct infection, touching fabrics, tissues or materials on which the virus is present.
Washing your hands is essential.
The virus survives on our hands for only about 10 minutes. In that time many things can happen, rubbing the eyes, touching the nose or lips. This allows the virus to enter your throat. Therefore, for your good and the good of all, wash your hands very often and disinfect them.
You can gargle with disinfectant solutions (i.e. Listerine or Hydrogen Peroxide) that eliminate or minimize the amount of virus that can enter the throat. Doing so removes the virus before it goes down to the trachea and then to the lungs.
Disinfect things touched often: mobile phone, keyboard, mouse, car steering wheel, door handles, etc ....

What the Next 18 Months Can Look Like, if Leaders Buy Us Time
"Do you notice something weird about this list of countries? Outside of China and Iran, which have suffered massive, undeniable outbreaks, and Brazil and Malaysia, every single country in this list is among the wealthiest in the world.
Do you think this virus targets rich countries? Or is it more likely that rich countries are better able to identify the virus?"
That's what I've been saying for a long time, but some idiot tried to argue with me that Africa is safe because of their warm weather. And then tried to imply that their governments can't suppress the real data. Yeah, right...
They can't suppress that data. Do you see what happens in Italian hospitals? Your time would be better spent in Khan Academy to learn about "Exponential Growth." Pick up some knowledge, some skills.
If the propagation of the virus is identical in Italy as in Africa, you would be seeing the same situation in Africa. Look at the video. How are you going to suppress this data? Warm weather helps. Period. Coronavirus has been out there for about 3 months. And Africa in a sense is China's backyard.
As your assertion that a virus can target rich countries, I really don't know of any "smart-virus" out there that can tell whether it's in a rich country or in a poor country. But I can point it out to you why Caucasian-dominant countries are hit hard by this virus: masks. Caucasian-dominant countries hate to see people wearing masks. It's just not part of their culture. (Chinese people travel as much or more than Western people, so it's not about traveling.) Do you know an average person touches their own face over 90 times in a day? That's how people get infected by COVID-19 virus. Caucasians, being averse to wearing masks, get infected much more easily than people in East Asian countries, where people are used to wearing masks. In fact, in East Asia, even before COVID-19, some people wear masks for no apparent reasons. They have been doing "social distancing" for decades. It doesn't mean mask-wearers are not friendly people: most of them are. But they just want to be left alone, unless you really have something to talk to them about.

This is good information. I wonder how accurate it is? I've heard up to three days for viability on surfaces.
I came across an interesting article about treating the coronavirus with an anti-malarial drug, hydroxychloroquine/chloroquin:
A Florida man hospitalized with the novel coronavirus claims an anti-malarial drug — one that President Trump has said is being tested as a possible treatment option but has not yet been approved — saved his life.
Rio Giardinieri, 52, told Fox 11 that he experienced a fever for five days, back pain, headache, cough, and tiredness after attending a work-related conference in New York. After returning home, he claims he was diagnosed with COVID-19 and pneumonia at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in South Florida. He was reportedly hospitalized in the facility’s intensive care unit for more than a week, at which point he says his symptoms had not alleviated.
“I was at the point where I was barely able to speak and breathing was very challenging. I really thought my end was there. I had been through nine days of solid pain and for me, the end was there. So I made some calls to say in my own way goodbye to my friends and family,” Giardinieri said.
The man then claims a friend told him about a possible treatment option, an anti-malarial drug known as hydroxychloroquine.
The same drug has also been used to treat auto-immune diseases like lupus, according to the New York Post. Some researchers in France recently issued a statement detailing how a combination of the anti-malarial medication and antibiotics could be a vital weapon in the battle against the coronavirus. Trump has also touted the drug as a possible treatment, saying last week that he has pushed the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to test hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine, a similar drug, as possible treatment options. However, such use has yet to be approved by the federal agency.
An infectious disease doctor treating Giardinieri “gave me all the reasons why I would probably not want to try it because there are no trials, there’s no testing, it was not something that was approved.”
But, Giardinieri recalled, “I said, ‘look I don’t know if I’m going to make it until the morning,’ because at that point I really thought I was coming to the end because I couldn’t breathe anymore.”
Giardinieri said he then received the medication, during which time he felt like his heart was “beating out of his chest” and still experienced difficulty breathing.
The man claimed he was then given Benadryl and other drugs and later woke up like “nothing ever happened.” He now claims that his fever has dissipated and he is no longer in pain. He also told Fox 11 he is able to breathe more normally again. The episodes he experienced after being administered hydroxychloroquine were likely his body fighting off the infection rather than an adverse reaction to the medication itself, doctors reportedly told him.
“To me, there was no doubt in mind that I wouldn’t make it until morning,” Giardinieri said, noting he received the medication on Saturday and hopes to be able to leave the hospital in five days. “So to me, the drug saved my life.”

Kraftie it sounds like your state New York will be the first state to undergo trial with this protocol. Trials will start tomorrow.
New York State will start coronavirus drug trials Tuesday in an attempt to control the pandemic's impact on the state, said New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
New York is the hardest-hit state in the U.S. As of Monday afternoon, the state had 20,875 confirmed cases of COVID-19. During a news conference on Sunday, Cuomo announced that the state has acquired 70,000 doses of hydroxychloroquine, 10,000 doses of zithromax and 750,000 doses of chloroquine. The trials will start Tuesday, he said.
Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine are antimalarial drugs. Zithromax, or azithromycin, is an antibiotic.

There is now a serious, worldwide shortage of Plaquenil (Hydroxychloroquine) for the patients who regularly use this drug to control Lupus. Without access to Plaquenil, Lupus patients will be at heightened risk pertaining to their original auto-immune disorder, as well as heightened risk of contracting Covid-19. Furthermore, this drug does not help patients with Lupus to combat Covid-19, since their body is already accustomed to the medication. There are worldwide petitions from the Lupus society to ensure that no patient is denied access to their prescription because of governments stockpiling as a viral precaution.
Please fight to have this drug readily available for those it was designed to treat. This drug cannot be hoarded by those who don't yet require it.

Mylan has restarted production of its hydroxychloroquine sulfate tablets at its West Virginia manufacturing facility as a potential treatment for COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. The company plans to have product available by mid-April and thinks it can ramp up to 50 million tablets, which could treat more than 1.5 million people.
Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine have been around for decades and are available as generics, so Mylan isn't likely to make very much selling generic hydroxychloroquine. Bayer is donating 3 million tablets of chloroquine to the U.S. government for potential use as a treatment for COVID-19.

In another article:
Teva Pharmaceutical plans to donate 10 million tablets of the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine sulfate as a potential treatment for COVID-19. That news follows a report from earlier this week that Bayer plans to donate 3 million tablets of the related drug chloroquine, which is more potent but has more hazardous side effects.
Teva has 6 million tablets on hand, which it plans to ship through wholesalers to hospitals by March 31, with the remaining doses expected to be ready within a month.
Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine are best-known as treatments for malaria, which is caused by a parasite, not a virus. Hydroxychloroquine is also prescribed for autoimmune diseases. But recent studies reported on in the journal Nature have found both drugs inhibit the ability of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus to replicate in the laboratory. How well the drug might do to help humans fight off the disease is still unknown, although initial reports have been positive.

If there is any shortage it will be short lived until the manufacturer's ramp up production.

My wife is a talented seamstress. The other day she made 30 face masks for distribution in nursing homes and the local hospital. Today we went up to my daughter's and she gave her a couple more bags of material so my wife can make more mask. When we arrived home my wife received a message that Jo Ann Fabrics had a call out to seamstresses to volunteer to make face mask for local nursing homes and hospitals. They would provide the fabric and elastic for free. The company would precut the fabric and the only thing the volunteers would need to do is put it together and bring it back so it would then be donated. They would even bring the materials out to your car.
I really don't think any shortage of face mask will exist much longer. Not with my wife hard a work.
You might even say she was volunteering for the war effort!

For a long time, I didn't think you had a sense of humour.
I stand corrected.

I'll just add that generic Hydrochloroquine does not work effectively for many patients with autoimmune disorders.
It is common that these patients require the name brand drug.
I certainly hope the generics can be used for corona trials, rather than the patented medication.

I'm not a 100% sure where you are going with that...
The shutdown of non-essential services, as a result of many selfish, Bondi beach, sun-loving young people, has added an estimated 1,000,000 people on unemployment.
The economy is not just important.
It is VERY important.
There does need to be balancing.
And there is an absolute need to be flexible.
So how does my position compare to yours?
