Teen climate activist Greta Thunberg said Tuesday that she’s been in self-isolation for two weeks after showing symptoms she believed were linked to the coronavirus, although admitted she was not tested for the disease.

The 17-year-old Thunberg said she’s “basically recovered” and detailed in an Instagram post how she came to the decision after returning from a trip around Central Europe, where COVID-19 cases have continued to surge.

“Around 10 days ago I started feeling some symptoms, exactly the same time as my father – who traveled with me from Brussels,” she said. “I was feeling tired, had shivers, a sore throat and coughed.”

Thunberg said her father's symptoms were "much more intense" and he had a fever.

In her native Sweden, where she also lives with her mother and sister, the teen said only those who need emergency medical treatment can get tested for the virus. All others are told to follow a self-isolation procedure and stay home.

“I have therefore not been tested for COVID-19, but it’s extremely likely that I’ve had it, given the combined symptoms and circumstances,” she said.

Jimmym's wife makes them more beautiful than I imagined. Do you happen to know the type of fabric used?

Greta's thing is what we are advised here too.
My son's nurse said to me today that all nurses have been alerted to be ready to get ready to be asked to drop everything and take on shifts at hospitals - meaning retired nurses, unemployed, and those who do shifts at people's homes and old age homes etc.

Anticipating a surge of new patients(i believe Quebec's cases tripled in 1 day) due to vacationers returning and not enough staff.

NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo angrily demands help as coronavirus ‘spiking’ to 25,000 cases — infections doubling every 3 days

Quote:
Gov. Cuomo offered a grim update on the exploding coronavirus pandemic Tuesday, saying New York is in the grip of a frightening “spike” with 25,665 people now infected in the state and 210 dead.

Speaking at the Javits Center in Manhattan, where the state is stockpiling medical supplies and the feds are setting up a makeshift hospital, Cuomo mixed soaring rhetoric and raw anger.

“The rate of increase of infection is doubling every three days,” Cuomo said. “The curve is actually increasing.”

“It is spiking,” Cuomo said, speaking with boxes of gloves, masks and surgical gowns stacked up behind him. “That is a bad combination of facts.”

New York City had 14,776 COVID cases and 131 fatalities as of Tuesday morning, according to Mayor de Blasio’s office. Queens had the most cases out of any borough — 4,364.

The governor warned that the efforts to contain the virus are so far falling dramatically short.

“We were looking at a freight train. Now we are looking at a bullet train,” he said.

He harshly criticized the federal government for sending a shipment 400 ventilators, when the state needs 30,000 within days. He said that amounts to a death sentence to ailing New Yorkers.

"You pick the people who are going to die,” he bluntly said.

Vice President Mike Pence later said 2,000 ventilators were being sent Tuesday and another 2,000 on Wednesday.

Bitterly criticizing President Trump, Cuomo said New York was not ready to risk the lives of elderly or vulnerable people by restarting the economy before public health experts say it is safe.

Trump later hit back at Cuomo for “complaining." He claimed that Cuomo passed up the chance to buy 16,000 ventilators in 2015 for the state “at a very good price,” without elaborating.

Cuomo said it’s good that New York City residents are starting to heed warnings to limit social interaction and to stay off the streets.

But he conceded that the measures are still not working — and the worst is still at least two or three weeks away.

New York will now need an estimated 140,000 hospital beds, up from 110,000 estimated before. There are only about 50,000 hospital beds in the state now.

Famed NYC performance artist, drag legend Nashom Wooden dies from coronavirus
Quote:
New York City nightlife legend Nashom Wooden, who once thrilled audiences as quick-witted drag diva Mona Foot, has died from the coronavirus, according to friends.

He was 50.

Tributes poured in across social media celebrating the life of a man whose drag queen persona lit up stages and hearts across the city.

Friend Wanda Acosta called Wooden “a New York institution” whose athletic, muscular physique made him stand out.

“He had been in the East Village LGBTQ scene since the late 80s.” Acosta said. “He was also a very talented outrageous creative performance artist. He was a lovely sweet talented gentle man “

In addition to performing as Mona Foot, Wooden was known for his being part of the The Ones, an electronic dance band whose 2001 single “Flawless” peaked at number seven on the UK Singles Chart.

The hit, which was sampled by singer George Michael for his 2003 dance smash "Flawless (Go to the City), was inspired by the 1999 film of the same name, in which Nashom appeared alongside actor Robert De Niro.

Most likely the total collapse of the economy will happen sooner.

So be it. We recovered from the Great Recession, multiple wars, 2008 recession, we’ll recover again just as the other nations doing lock downs will.

How about you stop panicking over the economy.

My Facebook is full of people who say “don’t panic over this virus” then panic over the economy

Yeah they have this frivolous need for a job to be able to pay for food and shelter. I know, ridiculous.

I take it you have no such need so meh on them?

We also recovered from the Spanish Flu people are so worried about covid-19 eventually someday possibly being like. That game plays both ways.

And people have this frivolous need to stay alive.
People are panicking over the economy and it’s irrational. Most companies will be fine, most people will return to their jobs, the economy will recover just as it always has.

The government has ensured people won’t lose their houses or food.
Two weeks isn’t a lot to ask for for f**k sake.

My work shut down today. I’m going have time file unemployment,
Do you even work?

You can make N95 type masks using a combination of cloth and merv 13 air filters. It may not be as good as manufactured masks, but it's much better than the alternative.

'Cuomo repeated calls for the federal government to use the Defense Production Act to compel manufacturers to produce ventilators, and to send ventilators from the federal stockpile of 20,000 to New York. “I do not for the life of me understand the reluctance to use the Defense Production Act,” he said.'

I was wondering about this too. In World Wars the world could use all the factories available for the production of weaponry why not do the same now for medical equipment?

Capitalism. The disease of greed, if they force them to make them for x value, they can't continue to force states to bid on limited supply.

Ford is cutting daytime electricity price by 20 per month. Evictions based on unpaid rent are forbidden although I heard of one still happening - maybe multiple missed payments prior to his or other reasons on top .

He should have shut down public transportation. I think the mayor and the governor of New York did not take the necessary steps in a timely manner that could have flattened the curve for NYC. In my opinion they did not handle the situation in a proactive manner.

He has to compete with other states even though his state needs the supply right now.

File for unemployment right away. Get on the line, Sly.

That means you keep your job once it opens again?
