Yeah, it was just a coincidence that all the sudden after 100+ years these statues just became offensive.

It took Americans 300 solid years to work out that it's wrong to treat other human beings like animals (slaves) so its not surprising that it takes another 100 years for you folks to work out that you shouldn't be building monuments to people who fought and killed your own kin in order to keep slaves

Yeah, it's a terrible country. We live on rats and sawdust bread and sometimes... on each other. At night, the pyres for the dead light up the sky. It's medieval.

What the Hell are you talking about?

Living on rats and sawdust bread? Well ... quite a few Americans are living like that. That's what it's like to be poor in the United States.

Americans feed on each other? Well ... this one is accidentally accurate, given that business owners exploit the working class. That's kinda like cannibalism.

The pyres of the dead light up the sky? Well ... that usually doesn't happen on American soil. That sort of thing usually happens in overseas occupied territories ... where the average American can't see it.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with my point

It would seem the German's have the right idea about removing symbols from the past even if they have historic value

The way I look at is from this perspective. The US is the most powerful nation on the planet. All countries (including our enemies) seek to emulate you

I think the US therefore needs to set an example if they are going to be a role model for all other nations. This is why I don't post about numerous other places that have also a poor track record with human rights because they aren't the United States. being number one carries with it responsibilities. Something lost on your current leader.

It's a quote from the movie Red Dawn (the orig.) describing Denver after it had been under siege for months. I use it whenever people whine about how terrible America is. It's to mock them, not to agree with them.

You wouldn't like the example I'd set.

That sounds like an excuse to me.Treat your own people of color better before you point a finger at our race relations.

Not pointing fingers or naming names but it's important to take into consideration that this is the internet and people can claim to be from Saturn if they want to. I could say more (a LOT more) but that would be trolling so I won't.
Me for example: Even if I lived in Talkeetna Alaska my profile would still say Southeastern USA just because it irks some of your liberal friends that a Southerner could be here contaminating their forum.

/\I see a double standard here at times. It's considered ok to call us derogatory names and the constant assumption that we are all racists.Even though California has more hate groups than Arkansas.
As soon as you leave the South some rude jerk will comment on the dialect.Or even tourists visiting here.Gets old.

Turn it around and weaponize it to torment and taunt them. Talk loud and constant with lots of exaggerated southernisms. Refer to your plantation and your slaves. You can't win those people so you might as well have sadistic fun with them at thier expense.

"Oh but Raptor, isn't that kind of uncivil?"
Fu¢k 'em, they stirred the hornets nest now let them get stung as a result their own actions.

I agree----and, IMO, it's not just "at times"; it's pretty much ALL-the-time----and, it's not just "us", as in Southerners; it's "us", as in Americans!!

The rules CLEARLY state that people aren't suppose to attack others, on here----not to "insult, ridicule, or belittle other members"----but, I guess that only applies to OTHERS (NON-Americans - not putting THEM, down, etc.).

It's an old story: the people who shout loudest about tolerance are often the most intolerant; the people who shout loudest about anti-racism are often the most racist; the people who shout loudest about anti-sexism are often the most sexist; the people who shout loudest about civility are often the most abusive.
