That would not be the first time this "church" has made the local, let alone national news (which is probably what they're striving for. Earlier this year they were posting anti-Islam signs, and later political messages during the mayoral election, on their property (causing a bit of protest). Members sent their kids to school wearing T-shirts with similar statements (needless to say, the school board has adopted a more strict dress code). More recently, they were made to pay taxes on their for-profit business located on the land that they had been evading.

Aside from its members, it is very unlikely that they will get any support from the community.

I hope not. Such a display will just get Muslims angry.

No more so than muslim churches having Bible bonfires. If that church wants to burn a book that they purchased, then let them do it. In the day of the computer, there can be a trillion electronic copies made in the time it takes for just one to burn. So they really aren't doing anything other than making a statement.
Just because some extremist Muslims burn the Bible doesn't mean that Christians are justified in burning the Koran. I can't see this making the world a more peaceful place. The only people who have the right to burn the Koran, from my point of view, are disaffected Muslims.

The Christian church bought and paid for the Korans. It is their property to do as they wish. The extremist Muslims who burn churches are not burning their own property, they are burning someone else's and depriving Christians of their civil rights.

Personally I think this is nothing but a cheap publicity stunt and if nothing else, it is in extremely poor taste.

I'm really starting to hate America. Why do you think Americans while in other countries have to mask their origin? The whole world thinks we are intolerant, and dumbfucks like these are the reason why.

This Sept. 11, I will be at an anime convention in Denver, but I still plan on taking time out of the day to say a prayer to everyone who lost their lives 9 years ago. EVERYONE, including the Muslims that died as well. They're as much of a victim in this situation as we are.

Oh, and people like Glenn Beck can go drink some hemlock.

Ditto. I wish everyone could/would remind themselves of this.

In every religious group, there are a few nuts. Said nuts are in no way representative of the entire group (any decent Statistics class will show you that one).

Here's why people make these assumptions.

I totally misread the title of this thread.
I thought it was "Burn a Korean Day", which made me mad, since nobody should ever be burned.

Book burning is stupid. It's a waste of money in my opinion.

This is evident why intolerance will never go away.

I'd love to show up with an armload each of Bibles and Qur'ans and toss them alternately onto their bonfire.

Pretty sure their plan was blocked by the courts. At least I read something like that on the news the other day.

Guess they don't care. Maybe some of them will burn themselves.

Did someone hack the website? I see a blue box in the middle that looks like an ad or more headlines for something, but it says that lame-ass crazy church is still going through with the stupid burning.

BURN THEM ALL AT THE STAKE! They have no right to be called Christian!

The senior pastor has been receiving death threats, according to http://www.gainesville.com/article/2010 ... ES/9011007

It might be safe to avoid that part of town on Saturday, but part of me wants to go and check the place out.

Stuff like this and the crud WBC pulls really just makes Christians look bad. I am a Christian, and I absolutely hate this idea.

Count me in on that, too. Just what we don't need at a moment of crisis regarding the attempt to bring some measure of order and justice to Afghanistan....
