The idea that one could censor the internet sounds highly absurd cause, the internet itself is neither owned nor governed by any one person or persons therfore the notion of trying to legislate censorship of the internet is not within the realm of logic...

But it is possible for governments to prevent their citizens from accessing certain (or any) websites from within their own country. Many countries have already done this.

It does not work.

Just check out wikileaks, it is costing a big deal to the US tough guys to block.

Even now, they don't have a domain anymore, but who cares? Let's still access it:

People from countries that are under big fire walls can manage to access stuff. It is not nearly hard. Any Chinese with limited skill in computers can access sites censored by the Chinese.

Net neutrality is not censorship of the internet. It is the opposite, forbidding internet service providers from favoring certain sites over others in their service.

Why exactly is everybody here agianst net neutrality?

They do have a domain, http://wikileaks.ch/

It's owned by the Swiss Pirate Party.

They do that so sites aren't all sluggish, sites like you tube which hosts videos get a lot more bandwidth because they handle videos. Whereas a site that just has a text based messageboard has less bandwidth.

Also, they will sometimes shut down a site because someone is trying to hack into the servers and that is the only way left to block the hacker.

Because it really means censorship.

Censorship is when people are prevented from seeing things because of their content. No matter how you spin it, this isn't censorship.

Example: They can say drudge report is using way too much bandwidth and make it next to impossible for people to see it due to lack of bandwidth for people to get onto that site.
