The money is in the new companies that will profit when regulations swing in the global warming/green energy direction. this is seen as a money grabbing initiative alone, not as a socially, economically and environmentally necessary change. Seems the oil compnaies don't like have their own game played against them. And god forbid there actually be some truth in it. Anything that challenges their trillions of dollars in profits is going to be bad... and i do not put it past them to manufacture whatever science and evidence and rhetoric to preserve their profits.

I still wonder if they even acknowledge oil as a finite resource...

The deep ocean has pools of Hydrates, As it works it's way up and gets trapped it becomes oil and gas. It can be produced directly.

It is also very cold, and there is energy to harvest with cold and hot.

There are other energy choices, and as usual, vested interests claim Coal, Oil, are needed for Freedom, The American Way, and God. Geothermal is unlimited, and the Devil's Work.

This sounds like we must tax Carbon, because it is common, and a Carbon VAT, would keep the political class in a style they would like, not having to balance taxes with spending. Our current national debt is theft from people who have not yet been born, to pay for old technology and low power thinking.

Norway taxes oil production, and now owns 1% of the world stock market. These people do not worry about health care, old age, for their natural resources will pay for it. It also pays for a first class education, for those yet to be born. Oil is taxed at 75%, they have no shortage of drillers.

Government is a system of stealing from everyone. In return, they lie.

They can be replaced.
