Dear Cyberdad, I was not criticizing the direction of the conversation, I actually want to know what connection exists between clairvoyance (real or faked) and murdered children; was there intended to be a discussion about psychics called in to find bodies of dead children, or to help find the missing ones, were specific cases to be analyzed? I do not blame families who reach out for any possible help, I cannot criticize people in that much pain, and I do believe that the majority of psychics believe in their own abilities, even if they are actually responding to subconscious reactions from subjects. Just my 2 cents worth. Sylkat

No problems Sylkat.

I guess you've heard Fnord's version of psychics so here's mine.

The whole area of psychic ability is literally an area of frontier science. I understand the burden of proof lies with the psychics to prove themselves especially in the search for missing people and murder victims.

What do we know? well here's a few facts, the human brain produces what are known as brain waves
alpha (weakest)
Beta
Theta
Delta (strongest)

Our brain emits these waves as tiny electrochemical impulses of varied frequencies, which can be registered by an electroencephalogram.

The question is do these waves travel very far outside the body? does the brain produce other signals? is it possible for our brain to collect process and decipher these signals from other people? These are an unknown but there is indeed tantalizing evidence from twin studies and from studies on university students in the University of Arizona that a person's state of mind (emotional) can be affected by another person's mood.

So what has this got to do with psychics? I don't think there is any harm in psychics helping with police cases. There is good evidence the police do have reasonable confidence in their results.

The reason Fnord is able to dismiss the literally thousands of police investigations using psychics around the world is that the police are not "officially" sanctioned to use their services or publicize their reliance on psychics. This of course doesn't stop police leaking the credit in successful investigations to their psychic helpers.
