any truth to the rumor that his mother was about to have him committed, and that made mr. lanza "snap"?

Is that even possible anymore?

One parallel between the CT shooting and Columbine was that all the shooters came from wealthy families. What's the connection between being rich (Lanza's mom was getting $250,000 a year in alimony) and murderous rampages, eh? A sense of entitlement and power? The feeling that others don't matter as much as you? Boredom because all your needs are automatically met? Parents too busy making money, or more in love with their cash than you?
Nah, let's blame it all on guns and Asperger's. It's practically a federal crime to question the ethics of wealth.

The problem is America's attitude towards guns and violence. It is a cultural problem. And brainwashing by NRA is a big part of the problem.

Having said that, common sense dictates that your average citizen could probably do without an assault rifle.... police don't ever carry those.

I'm not returning to this thread.

now that guns can be printed via a 3d computer printer, i believe the problems with firearms may get worse. i doubt they could print the ammo, though.

What sort of 3D printer would that be? The ones I looked into not long ago had neither the accuracy nor the strength in the printed material to print something like a rifle barrel -- it'd probably jam or explode if you tried.
When I looked the equipment wasn't exactly affordable, either -- they were in about the same range as a new car.

the cost of 3D printers is projected to head south of 4 figures by the end of the decade or sooner.

The original poster poured a seeming lifetime of research into producing this compendium of the last 85 years in world wide mayhem.

And whats the upshot of it all?

Look at his data: 42 incidents without guns= 208 deaths.
One incident in connecticut WITH guns= 28 deaths.

The gun free incidents average five deaths each.

So it would take more than five average incidents to rack up the body count of that one incident in connecticut with 28.

This demonstrates that on average a maniac with a gun is five to six times as deadly as a maniac without a gun.

Thats pretty powerful proof that we need to keep guns out of the hands of maniacs through more gun control!

But I think we all already knew that.

Calvin Coolidge thus has the fine luxury of having presided over that event...
