Those "perfectly good" synthetic alternatives cause vastly more environmental damage than wearing wild fur.

First, wild fur last for generations. There are many people who have heirloom fur coats that were worn a century or more ago, and they are still as warm, dry and functional today as they were 100 years ago. On the other hand, the lifespan of synthetic fur garment is generally less than a decade, particularly when it is worn in harsh conditions--as fur almost invariably is. So for every sable, mink or racoon coat out there, you would have to make 10 synthetic coats.

Consider the environmental cost of making those synthetic coats. Consider the environmental cost of making 10 of those synthetic coats. Then compare that to the environmental cost of hunting sufficient animals to acquire the number of pelts required.

Now, that's based on wild fur. Farmed fur is somewhat different, because there are environmental costs to farming. However, farming presents additional advantages by providing byproducts that can be used for everything from pet food to perfume, and organic fertilizers, to boot.

If you look at things from a wide environmental perspective, then the use of natural materials, like leather and fur, offers vast benefits over the use of synthetic fibres--especially when they are hunted from the wild. Where farming adds additional benefits, then it can (and should) be conducted in a manner that mitigates environmental impact and that maximizes the health and well being of the animals during their lifetimes.

Fur is good. Wild fur is even better.

This thread is absurd.

The whole anti sealing issue is basically a persecution of a minority population in canada.

Your persecuting an entire culture, and way of life via some cultural imperialism because attacking a bunch of poor villagers in one of the most remote regions in the world is much easier than going after major farming.

It really is that simple, if they weren't white, it'd be considered racist to persecute a people's way of life.

If you've ever been to one of these places(which is virtually impossible) as you wouldn't even open your mouth on the subject, your basically wiping out a people as a we know it.
