What I'm about to say, I don't say lightly. I don't use this term lightly or often but I feel it truly applies here. With that said, this guy's ret*d. And his idea is ret*d. The cause of AS is genetic. Anyone with half a brain knows that. It's thunderingly obvious. Why else would parents of AS children often test positive for AS as well? Worms. What an idiot.

Does he have these worms in his own intestine, what happens if the worms get transmitted around a school. We had something like this when my kids were growing up and the worms spread quickly .The local chemist made a small fortune out of worming tablets at ( £10.00 a pack x 500 kids) – 30% wholesale price.

No kid could sit still or sleep properly for about a week.

It was , "challenging", but not as bad as Nits . Nits were oily lotion comb stuff and head scratching.

Interesting, some guys reckon nematode worms may have had enough microtubles to generate the first primitive state of consciousness around 540 million years ago. Man, what a place for today's worm version to wake up, in someone's gut. :)

Disgusting ! I do not think it will cure my AS (not that I want to be cured). But it might help with weight loss, but I think the side effects like worms going into my brain is too horrible to consider.

I think I will go on a weightwatcher's diet if I choose to lose weight again.

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

Some helminths do migrate to places like the brain, those are not ones you would want to use for therapy. Trichuris does not migrate, it hatches and stays in the intestine for a few years until the immune system kicks it out. I would compare it to having an IUD, something that sits inside your body but you don't have any awareness of it. I don't want to be "cured" of autism. I want my OCD symptoms to taper down. Also, trichuris does not cause weight loss. If you host too many you might become anemic. Like I said I would rather try something natural for the OCD than a pill. Science says our bodies have evolved to host worms and without them our immune systems go haywire. I also have severe allergies and helminth replacement has been found to help those too.

Helminth replacement therapy is quite something to wrap you head around. I have been studying it for 2 years. I am rather surprised at the responses because I am a nerdy science person and I would have expected others on this forum might be like me and come to the same conclusion. I have a long family history of autoimmune disease and allergy, I wonder if any of you are the same? I wonder if SJ's son prefers to smash himself in the head and have anxiety attacks or prefers to drink the whipworm eggs. I wonder if he knows he is taking a probiotic. I do know I hate picking at my face and the scars I am getting. I also dislike the sensory sensitivities associated with my condition. Maybe trichuris will be my squeeze machine.

How about we take the maturity up a notch and instead of insults, do a little research before you reply. I give SJ a lot of credit because he was faced with a very difficult situation. For a second put yourself in his place.

I do tire of the curemongers. But this treatment is about quality of life for those with ASD. That is why I am speaking up to correct the inconsistencies in what was posted about TSO.

Further, autism per se is not an autoimmune disorder.

I do wonder, however, if this same "doctor" prescribes, for the treatment of arthritis (which is an autoimmune disorder), the application of leeches to the joints.

actually, it may be caused by an immune system response, so while it is not such a disorder it may well be the result of one.

this isn't really a cure, it's just something that could take away the problems causing and sustaining autism in an individual.

some theorize that immune system over activation leads to defensive toxins being released in the body which then damages the brain.

you do realize that genes create the effects they do THROUGH INTERACTION WITH THE ENVIRONMENT THAT THEY WORK IN, correct? ergo, just because a gene is in play does not mean that other factors have not caused that gene to create a vulnerability that otherwise would not have existed had those environmental problems not existed.

in other words, a certain gene can be a good or bad thing depending on the environment it exists in.

You know, if we had overactive immune systems there'd be a strong link between autism and early aging and death from health related matters. Supposedly the human immune system is a part of aging in that it attacks the body as well while its trying to fight bacteria and other pathogens. If anything we tend to look a lot younger than our age and I can't say I've seen evidence of us dying any younger or older than any other group per say.

or the problems could die down over time with that being the reason why AS tends to become less of a problem as people age.

I don't know if this can really happen. For the record though, I find worms absolutely DISGUSTING and would much rather be autistic than infested with those disgusting things. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

And to add to the fact that this is to most ridiculous $#*! I have heard today, The Immune system can't directly attack a bunch of worms in your stomach.

And if it could they would actually stimulate it's activity even more because there would be something else to attack...

At least have some knowledge of anatomy before claiming to cure diseases. Sheesh :D

Don't even THINK of putting parasites in your body to "cure" anything!! ! There have been people who ordered tapeworms online and swallowed them to lose weight and then the worms grew, gave birth to more tapeworms (I guess they can mate with themselves), which burrowed into their inner organs and killed them. Anyone who sells "medicinal" parasitic worms is a huge quack-doctor who should get life in prison for the people they've murdered!! ! :x
