How did the Church react when Galileo said the world is round? What was public opinion in the west when Time magazine named Hitler as "man of the year" in 1937? Propaganda is indeed a very powerful tool.
Notably, all scholars at the time knew the world was round, and Galileo was troubled for advocating Heliocentrism.
Narratives form an integral part of everyone's world view, and they necessarily take liberties with the truth. Galileo and the like are consistently abused figures.
