Emergence of a Deadly Coronavirus
I don't lie, and there is no reason to lie on an anonymous forum. It was influenced by the nurse telling me people are releasing their pets into the streets and abandoning them due to fear of this virus. However IsabellaLinton posted about it and it was because of inability to care for them maybe because of finances?
The joke about the song called 'Who let the dogs out' is that it's a statement not a question...
because the world health organization WHO said dogs can't spread it so people can take them out
Sort of a convoluted joke but whatever
My vet informed me that animals don't get sick with the disease.
But I wouldn't let a dog lick the face of an infected person and then immediately let it lick your face.
Just stating the truth here.
You are very aspie with regard to not seeing the joke.
I wasn't seriously calling you a liar.
Sheldon Lee Cooper has the same problem.
You are in good company.

Old news about the pets - people were flinging their dogs and cats from high rises in Wuhan back in February
That's despicable.

That's China....
Possibly saved my tonsils.
If a kids tongue was coated they gave you a natural laxative like Fletchers Castoria or an NR.(nature’s remedy).
I imagine Listerine would help.
The sort with alcohol.
If anyone knows differently, I'd like to be informed.
I may have to learn to like alcohol.

I could just gargle with it and then spit it out.
Hmmm.
I feel better now.

Sincere apologies. <puppydog eyes>
My credibility is very important to me, hence my public contrition.
Thankfully, I rarely have to apologies.

Thank you for your honesty!

It's a chaotic time, with the economy in trouble and a lot of us working like crazy to take care of ourselves financially. Quite a few of us, myself included, are running on low sleep and big stress due to disrupted schedules. This is especially difficult for aspies since we're sensitive to change.
Let me take this opportunity to apologize to anyone here who I've offended. Sometimes I post things that are over-emotional, irrational, biased, etc.
Jimmy has created a great thread where aspies, despite our differences, are coming together to work on the goal of battling the pandemic. Whether discussing news, brainstorming ideas, providing resources, expressing courage, or bringing smiles and laughter... each of us is a beam of light inspiring hope in these dark times.
More, more and more rapid testing devices are popping up everywhere!
(1) DETECT COVID-19 IN AS LITTLE AS 5 MINUTES
https://www.abbott.com/corpnewsroom/product-and-innovation/detect-covid-19-in-as-little-as-5-minutes.html
... Abbott expects to produce about 5 million tests in April.
(2) Cheapest Rapid Physical Test
This new just came out in Taiwan, so I don't think the news has been translated into other languages, yet. The actual screening time is only 30 seconds. It doesn't detect the virus. Instead, it detect the existence of minute amount of liquid inside the lung (which is what truly matters for infecting other people). Because it's based on physical principles (as opposed to biochemical principles), the device is dirt-cheap. And the marginal cost of each additional test is essentially zero dollars. Considering that the R0 of the COVID-19 virus is barely 1.5~3.5, if a patient is discovered with this device, in all likeliness we will have discovered the patient BEFORE he/she has a chance to infect other people. If the accuracy of the device is confirmed, then this device (or similar devices) will be the real thing that will allow everyone to go back to work and school. This device makes it possible for everyone to be screened, every day. Of course, the positive cases will have to be followed by biochemical tests.
Sincere apologies. <puppydog eyes>

I am finding these times very trying also.
I am in a constantly anxious state,
Wondering where I am going to find my next inspired joke.

Thank you for accepting my apology.
You will be on my Christmas card list now,
Assuming I survive that long.

Rhode Island Police to Hunt Down New Yorkers Seeking Refuge
“Right now we have a pinpointed risk,” Governor Gina Raimondo said. “That risk is called New York City.”
New York is the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S., on Friday reporting a total of 44,000 cases.
Rhode Island has just over 200, and it has begun an aggressive campaign to keep the virus out and New Yorkers contained, over objections from civil liberties advocates.
Raimondo, a Democrat, said she had consulted lawyers and said while she couldn’t close the border, she felt confident she could enforce a quarantin
Many New Yorkers have summer houses in Rhode Island, especially in tony Newport, and the governor said the authorities would be checking there.
“Yesterday I announced and today I reiterated: Anyone coming to Rhode Island in any way from New York must be quarantined,” the governor said. “By order. Will be enforced. Enforceable by law.”
Raimondo signed an executive order Thursday that applies to anyone who has been in New York during the past two weeks and through at least April 25. It doesn’t apply to public health, public safety, or health-care workers.
National Guard members will be stationed at the T.F. Green airport, Amtrak train stations and at bus stops. The citizen-soldiers will be following up with people at local residences.
The maximum penalty for not complying: a fine of $500 and 90 days in prison.
“While the Governor may have the power to suspend some state laws and regulations to address this medical emergency, she cannot suspend the Constitution,” Rhode Island ACLU executive director Steven Brown said in a statement. “Under the Fourth Amendment, having a New York state license plate simply does not, and cannot, constitute ‘probable cause’ to allow police to stop a car and interrogate the driver, no matter how laudable the goal of the stop may be.”
Just before 1 p.m. Friday, state police were set up on Interstate 95 northbound, at the rest stop closest to the Connecticut border. A mile or two before that, motorists could see signs ordering all New York passenger vehicles to pull over at the rest stop.
One trooper could be seen there, checking license plates as cars went by. At the stop itself, a number of officers were assembled around a tent, ready to question vehicle occupants.

In free societies, people generally cooperate so long as they believe the authorities are acting fairly and in their best interest. But that trust can evaporate pretty quickly, and if it does there really isn't anything that can be done. A city of 40,000 might have maybe 20 police officers on duty at any given time. Local disobedience can be controlled, but if there is widespread disobedience there isn't anything that can be done.

The FDA just issued an emergency authorization for a new coronavirus test. It allows a person to know if they are infected in five minutes after taking the test. They are expecting to do about 5 million test in April with this device.
A French physician has used Hydroxychloroquine combined with Azithromycin (Z Pack) on 80 hospital patients and 79 survived. The results will be published soon. Hospital patients are the most serious individuals affected by the coronavirus. Within 8 days 93% did not have any of the virus left in their bodies.
Convalescent Plasma - infusing antibodies from recovered patients into sick patients. There was a paper just coming out where five morbidly ill coronavirus patients were treated with this approach and all 5 recovered.

On the home front I have been periodically wearing the silver cloth face mask to determine if there are any negative reactions. The material has some odor but as far as I am concerned I can wear it for several hours at a time without problem. At the suggestion of QuantumChemist, I had my wife fabricate a pair of gloves using this form of technology. The advantage to this type of glove is that someone wearing the gloves would not have to worry about touching object infected with the coronavirus. It would kill the virus on contact with the Kenized anti-tarnish silver cloth. At least that is the theory. The material is a little expensive and after having given it some thought, the approach we are using is to buy some stretchy winter gloves which are currently on sale and sew on little finger cuffs on each of the fingers. This allows the fingertips to be protected whereas the rest of the glove is not. Most of the contact is at the fingertips. It would be good to wear a comfortable glove and not be worried about touching your nose if it itches.
Products rushed out pose a number of risks.

If you have a lot of time on your hands,
Maybe you have decided to isolate yourself for some unknown reason,
This might be interesting.
I found it so.
A bit like social interaction, in some ways,
But without the interaction part.
Bartholomew, out.
(Can you guess what this name is referring to?)

I’m posting it here so that anyone who is concerned they may have it can (hopefully) access it, go through the questionnaire and then translate the advice to fit their own countries healthcare system.
(Found it earlier today to help sister-in-law, who has all the mild level symptoms)
Edit: just had it drawn to my attention that this only works with a UK postcode: HD4 6NN is the postcode of the street I lived on a decade ago.

That's a very good post (last para especially) and ditto regarding offending anyone.
The issue with the face masks with the silver cloth is that I read that material's protective properties wash off.
So it's a one-use situation which sounds rather wasteful for the effort that was put in making it.
Alternatively I suppose one could use a paper cloth mask first and this one over is to have it hygienic and lasting a longer time without having to wash it.
