goldfish21, it seems that you have a strong desire to discuss POLITICS. If so, go right ahead but not in this thread. Start your own in the PPR forum where it belongs and have at it there. Just not here.

And the other thing that I scratch my head is why is a Canadian so hell bent on discussing U.S. politics.

It’s pandemic response discussion, not my fault America’s leadership politicized it.

Because everything they do South of the border spills over into Canada and affects our economy & daily lives. We have more of a vested interest in the USA’s normal functioning than any other country besides the USA. Although, their influence is global and thus everyone’s entitled to an opinion on what the USA does. I’ll rescind that as soon as they stop affecting literally everyone else.

^I'm sorry that the U.S. seems to affect you so completely to the point of affecting how you experience your life on a daily basis. I feel bad for you in that regard. I hope you're able to detach from that at some point and enjoy life day to day.

Maybe some good news: 186 less deaths in NY State than yesterday.

The bat origins theory of the virus has yet to be verified. The picture that was the origin of the theory showed a chinese woman that eats for a travelling food show, in addition, she wasn't even in China, at least according to fact checker sites.

That said we can blame China for attempting to silence information about the coronavirus and which resulted in it becoming much more widespread than it should've been.

The zoonotic mode of transmission from animals to humans in Wuhan is fairly well agreed to be the most likely way the virus jumped into humans. Poorly cooked bat meat is also the most likely source of the virus,

I prefer to have definite conclusions rather than probabilities and guesswork, if at all possible. The fact-checker article I looked at said that snake was also a likely source of the virus. But so far, we have no definite answers.

Edit:After looking at an actual research paper, it seems that the most likely origin are bats and that the determined place of origin is the Wuhan Seafood Market, However, the Seafood market does not sell bats. So, the researchers thought that it more likely jumped to an intermediate animal like a pangolin, snake, or other animal. Or may have infected some sort of food or snack and then jumped to humans. However, they also note that they can't make a definite conclusion.

To be on the safe side roadside stands made of pallets and plywood that sell wild animals as food should be banned. In most major countries such an operation would violate numerous health code laws.

Erm, it's Canada's other national sport. It ranks behind hockey but ahead of lacrosse.

It’s because our economies and politics are so intertwined that almost all the stupid s**t they do down their affects our country. Imagine having Tiger King for a next door neighbour & business partner and you’ll understand why Canadians have something to say about the s**tshow south of the border.

I know people who live in Canada and not a single one of them is transfixed and obsessed by the U.S. or its politics. None of them believe that Canada is an unwilling conjoined lesser twin to the U.S, unable to function effectively because of U.S. politics/economy. In fact I know an expat couple who moved to Canada more than twenty years ago and have since become Canadian citizens. Save for a few relatives still back in the U.S., Canada is everything to them. The U.S. doesn't factor into their daily lives at all and in no way occupies their thoughts.

How many of them? You've had multiple Canadians you know tell you the exact opposite of your claims in this thread.

I refuse to believe that most Canadians are obsessed with the U.S. or have an inferiority complex about their own country in comparison. I have traveled in Canada including going to Folklarama in Winnipeg multiple times, for example and talking with people while there about many different topics. I also worked at a casino just south of the Canadian border in which my job was interacting with what amounted to thousands of Canadians over the course of working there. Not once do I recall in my conversations with them that any were fixated on the U.S. or talked about the U.S. being an overwhelming negative force keeping the good Canadians down. These conversations also took place after work hours in the bar where surely the topic would have come up if it was a commonly shared trait of Canadians in general to hate on the U.S.

In present day Canada, American politics is discussed Far More Often than Canadian politics because everything is bar s**t crazy South of the border rn and it’s just ho-hum boring business as usual up here. The trump circus s**tshow is like a never ending train wreck we just can’t look away from.

Pretty much every Canadian has an opinion about America right now, but we’re also smart enough not to discuss politics with Americans. Everyone I know that spends any time across the line has an opinion on trump but they say NOTHING down there because they know damn well how “passionate,” some trump supporters can be. The only reason you don’t hear Canadians talk about American politics or Americans in person is because we are both polite and smart enough to zip it for the purposes of self preservation.

 Any Canadian who claims the USA has no affect on their daily life must be a subsistence farmer and/or can’t do math.

America is our largest trading partner. Something like 70% of our trade is with the USA. We are, unfortunately, dependent on the USA.

What might be going on here?

Woman walks around Walmart (?) and deliberately touches all the display items:

At least a million people have died now. I hate the governments, I hate the human race, I hate society and I hate myself and want to die. I WILL die! It'll be painful and unpleasant at first, but then I'll feel nothing. It'll be just like taking a dreamless nap. It'll be like I never suffered to begin with. It'll be like I've never been born AND I NEVER SHOULD HAVE!!

Is it just done for showing off?

Maybe gangsters do it before making deals / threats, for macho points

(eg the creepy bald one in Rush Hour 2.. He actually looked more like Voldemort than what the film showed)...

Got it.

So...all Canadians feel that the U.S. and Trump even more so rule and ruin their lives but they refrain from sharing this with Americans (except on autism related forums?) for fear of violence or death but commiserate freely and often with each other on the subject because there's nothing interesting or worthwhile for Canadians to talk about specific to their own country. By nature of their proximity to the U.S., Canadian's lives are unfulfilling and in effect they've been robbed of the ability to live the kinds of lives they'd like to live and it's the fault of the U.S. and more specifically, Trump. In certain respects, their lives have been ruined; ruined by the U.S. and ruined by Trump.

Fish, you don't think my WP name has an association with MAGA, do you? That's funny if you do. It has no affiliation or intended affiliation with MAGA.

I'm sorry, Jimmy for being part of derailing this thread. I simply couldn't sit idle without commenting.
