Minneapolis cop with knee on neck of motionless, moaning man
This would be at least 2nd degree manslaughter in NY State. A B felony.
The maximum for this charge is 25 years behind bars

Sorry make that 8 points
The police prosecutor who charged Derek Chauvin with 3rd degree murder also needs to be charged. Watching Van Jones and he said that there is no such thing as third degree murder. It was just made up to protect Chauvin from further investigation.
Then Van Jones is an imbecile.
This cop was convicted of third degree murder in Minnesota just last year:

In Massachusetts they simply have "manslaughter" no degrees or levels, the sentence range is probation to 20 years depending on the viciousness of the crime.I suspect Derek Chauvin would get on the longer end of the 20 year spectrum.

In Minnesota, it's a max of 15 years for voluntary manslaughter or 10 years for involuntary.
3rd degree murder has a max of 25.

3rd degree murder has a max of 25.
"Minnesota’s sentencing guidelines recommend 12 1/2 years for a conviction on the murder count and four years on the manslaughter charge"
https://www.mprnews.org/story/2020/05/29/george-floyd
Then cut those in 1/2 for parole.
So, 6.25 years for the murder conviction, and 2 years for manslaughter.

4 St. Louis police officers shot at George Floyd protests
Quote:
Authorities in St. Louis said early Tuesday that four police officers were shot during protests in the city’s downtown area and officers continue to be under fire.
St. Louis Police Chief John Hayden told reporters that two officers were shot in the leg and one was shot in the foot. The other was shot in the arm. Hayden said they were hit by gunfire while standing on the side of a police line amid protests in the city.
As we speak we're trying to get control out of this city, still hearing gunfire and everything. I don't know what else to say. This is horrible," he said. "Thank God, they're alive."
Hayden added that he believes "some coward randomly shot at the police line."
Besides the shooting in St. Louis, there were reports of police being shot in Richmond Va. and Las Vegas. Their conditions were not immediately clear.
Unconfirmed video on Twitter showed chaos in the downtown area as police vehicles and cars were seen traveling throughout the smoke and fire filled streets. Dozens of shots could be heard.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that all of the officers were conscious and breathing after being rushed to the hospital.
Around 12:25 a.m. local time, “heavy gunfire” could be heard “coming from several directions downtown," according to the paper.
Fox 2 Now reported that earlier in the day, crowds formed outside the St. Louis Police headquarters in the city, and police set up defensive lines around the perimeter. The relative calm in the city during the day gave way to violence in the city that included a 7-Eleven being looted and set on fire.
Sometime later, Hayden said a group of 200 or so had no intention of protesting when they started throwing rocks and fireworks at officers.
Hayden said the rioters were hyping up the crowd and high fiving each other. He said they started throwing things at officers and then looting all over downtown.
“Officers exhibited extraordinary restraint,” Hayden said.
He added that officers only took measures to combat the crowd after things became violent outside of police headquarters. Police in riot gear threw tear gas at the crowd and started moving in lines to break up the rioters, according to St. Louis' KSDK.
"We had to protect our headquarters building, they were throwing fireworks on officers, fireworks were exploding on officers, they had officers that had gas poured on them....Mr. [George] Floyd was killed somewhere else and they're tearing up cities all across the country," Hayden said.
The report said that downtown businesses and construction sites were also set on fire.

NYPD cop struck by hit-and-run driver in the Bronx
Quote:
An NYPD officer was struck by a hit-and-run driver in the Bronx early Tuesday, law enforcement sources said.
The officer was mowed down at the intersection of East 170th Street and Walton Avenue in Mt. Eden by the driver of a dark sedan, according to dramatic footage of the incident.
The officer was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was expected to survive, sources said.
The recording of the hit-and-run, which was posted to Twitter, shows the cop get launched into the air and hit another vehicle after being struck.
“That’s a f—ing cop,” a woman recording the footage says after impact. “Oh s–t!”
The officer lands in the middle of the intersection and several other people, presumably officers, rush over.
An NYPD van with its sirens flashing pulls up and the injured officer is escorted into the vehicle.
“Oh my God, oh my God!” witnesses can be heard saying.
Seconds later, three more police vehicles show up and the van carrying the victim drives off.
The witness later tweeted that there were helicopters in the area “chasing that car down.”
The NYPD did not immediately have additional information on the incident.

Video shows NYPD cop being attacked by several men in the Bronx
Quote:
An NYPD officer was attacked by several men in the Bronx Monday night as onlookers recording the struggle egged on the suspects.
The footage, which was tweeted by the city’s Sergeants Benevolent Association, shows two men forcefully toss an unknown object at an officer who’s on the ground struggling with somebody else.
After the second man attacks, the man tussling with the cop runs free, the video shows.
The officer, appearing dazed, gets up after the group flees and immediately draws his gun, but doesn’t appear to point it toward anyone in particular, according to the video.

During the attack, a man in the recording can be heard repeatedly yelling “F–k 12” — an anti-cop slang reference.
The incident occurred as police on Monday night struggled to contain roving gangs of young looters in Manhattan.
Amid the mayhem, another officer was injured on Madison Avenue, according to footage posted to Twitter by Fox News correspondent Bryan Llenas.
The video showed an officer sprawled face-down on the sidewalk as another cops comes to his side with a bottle of water.
Along with posting the video, the SBA wrote of the officer involved, “I guess the critics will now say he overreacted. NYPD Cops defend yourselves, you are alone!”
The comment is a reference to a Sunday night video that showed an NYPD cop pulling a gun on protesters.
Mayor Bill de Blasio on Monday morning said that officer should be stripped of his gun and badge over the threat of deadly force.

I had said earlier in the thread that the county medical examiner is often over worked and makes mistakes.

I'd suggest it might be more motivated by wanting to cover for people they know and work with.

So, back on topic; the independent autopsy report into the killing of George Floyd returned results that are at odds with the county examiner's report, but much more consistent with what the video shows. The independent report describes the cause of death as asphyxia due to neck and back compression in contrast with the county's autopsy which returned no findings to support traumatic asphyxia or strangulation.

This has been splashed all over the Australian news this morning.
While Trump is hiding in the whitehouse with his lights switched off drawing plans to attack Antifa he seems to have ignored
1) George Floyd is now officially been murdered by the police
2) Chauvin's 3rd degree should now be upgraded to first degree as there is evidence Chauvin knew Floyd and worked together and this may have been payback
3) the three Asian cops who stood around should be charged as accomplices (one of these idiots tried to tazer a member of the public)
4) The police medical coroner should be charged with fraud and being an accomplice to murder
5) the entire Minneapolis police force should be investigated by the FBI
6) the entire US police force should be bought into line with the rest of the civilised world with regard to human rights
7) police forces in other countries should also be purged of psychopaths (we have aboriginal deaths in custody here in Australia where nobody in the force is charged)
I agree with all 7 of your points.
Right now, the protests/riots are pure emotion without logic. There haven't been any concrete or unified demands and there hasn't been dialogue on how to fix the problems. Nothing will change until there can be rational discussions and rational change that ends up being positive for everyone. You are laying out actual points worth implementing and acting on. That's how positive change can happen.
Your points would hopefully bring a positive outcome in the end.
There also must be rule of law in civilized society. That rule of law should be fair and just and applied to all equally. That's hasn't happened yet in the history of the U.S. That absolutely does need to change.
Read the definitions of 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree murder in Minnesotan law. You'd never get anything above 3rd to stick. 3rd is the correct charge imo.
Careful who you're calling a moron when you're insisting that they can't prove intention with a perp who intentionally put someone in a hold that has the potential to cause death and held it for nearly 9 minutes. If they can't get a conviction for 2nd degree murder the prosecutor needs debarred for incompetence.

A lot of things have the potential to cause death. You have to be able to prove beyond doubt the intent was to cause death.

Great. I guess all you need right now is military deployed to fight civilians. Obviously, it will help calm things down, won't it?What is this man thinking if he's thinking at all?
National guard shows up and rioters disappear. Seems even riots don’t want to f**k with combat trained troops with m4s. So yes I do think the military would calm down this shot and instantly put it to stop. Hard to riot against a tank.
This s**t needs to stop. All it’s doing is giving more power to the police state. This will be used to expand the police abuse that’s all.
