People are either going to wear masks or they aren't no matter what all the studies and reports say about it. Pretty much the same as there are those who fasten their seat belts and those who don't. There could be laws made to enforce it. But it would probably specify particular manufactured masks that have been approved for coronavirus. I doubt homemade masks would qualify any more than homemade seat belts would. But then again I'm no expert on the matter.

Most NT are driven by the herd. If no one is wearing masks, they do not want to be out of step with the rest of society and will not wear mask. On the other hand if everyone is wearing mask, they will wear mask.

I am an Aspie and I do what I think is best irrespective of the rest of society. I have been wearing an N95 for a month and a half in public whenever I am out. My wife who is an extreme extrovert refused to wear a mask. But now I think she has become a little scared because the cases are getting a little closer to home. So she is starting to listen to my advise and has begun wearing masks.

Every time I go up and about, I notice more and more people wearing mask. I suspect when the number of people wearing masks exceeds the number of people not wearing masks, that the cultural drivers will shift and it will become from a social view mandatory to wear masks. It will become a social norm.

In the past, if you wore a mask in public, people would look at you and admonish you because you are at variance with the guidance from CDC which was to not wear any kind of mask in public. Most of this admonishment was not open but rather, they looked at you as an oddball, perhaps one who has something to hide, perhaps someone who is infected. But now that CDC has made mask wearing optional, the repercussions of wearing a mask has been lifted officially. So this was an important step. I expect the trend for wearing mask to see a major uptick in the next few days. - People who are not wearing mask will be looked at in scorn, as individuals not taking appropriate steps to minimize the spread of this infection.

It will be interesting to see if it does shift to people not wearing masks in public being viewed as infectors (sick) and people wearing masks as infectees (healthy). Prior to this virus a mask wearer in public in the U.S., since it was barely seen, was viewed as being a sick person walking around as a potential infector and made people uncomfortable for that reason.

Spring is here. For the past week I haven't had to heat my home with wood. So my indoor humidity levels are finally above 40% relative humidity. This should translate to a slowdown in the transmission rate of the virus. Currently my State, Indiana, is in a steep rise in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases/deaths. I suspect there is a lag time of a week or so between indoor humidity levels and infection rate as measured by confirmed cases of the virus. So it will be interesting to track the spread of the virus over the next week to see if they levels off and begins to decline.

I think it will remain a matter of individual choice. People are not all that herd-like. They don't all wear the same style of they clothing etc. They get piercings and tattoos if they feel like it regardless of who approves or not. People do what they want and most others mind their own business.

I don’t believe wearing masks will become the new norm. People are going to get sick (no pun intended) of wearing them.

Source: Russian doctor who shook hands with Putin last week has coronavirus

A Russian doctor who gave President Vladimir Putin a tour of a hospital that is treating coronavirus patients now says he has contracted the sickness.

Denis Protsenko, who works at Hospital No. 40 near Moscow, was photographed shaking hands with Putin last Tuesday while not wearing any protective gear.

“Yes, I have a positive test but feeling pretty good,” Protsenko wrote in a Facebook post today, adding that he is now self-quarantining in his office.

That would be true for most people. However, if Japan is a good example, you will see some girls choosing to keep wearing masks, even after COVID-19. The reason is pretty simple: social distancing. It's a good way of turning people's eyes away from them, and avoiding unsolicited conversations.

It won't kill you if you aren't yet ill before and care about the symtoms of a cold as you should. It seems aggressive to the lungs and the heart because of the damage of the lungs. You have to rest a lost and you should take a lot of vitamin C and skip caffein. Then it's not a big thing. Otherwise it may kill even quite young people. It useless to be scared. Just be prepared to any fight that you can't really prevent.

I observe the public and if I see a lot of people wearing masks, I'll wear one too.

I finally got one mask made after five hours of sewing. I don't know if I should be proud or embarrassed about the time it took to make one mask.

Yeah, but looks like I am going to be a little bit short of my goal. My goal was to sew three masks plus a duffle bag by the end of the day tomorrow. Takes about eight hours to make a duffle bag.
