What was the name of the fish medication, jimmy? (If you're comfortable to post it). I've had several aquaria and purchased antibiotic treatments for my fish without ever going to a veterinarian. Many of the drugs have had human-antibiotic / anti-fungal names but were made for fish. When I was in Uni my fish had Ich and I bought a medication off the shelf. I've also used fizzing type products to balance the chemicals in the water (somewhat akin to a fish tank cleaner, I guess). I've been curious all along which one they're talking about. Of course there's no worry that I'll go ahead and consume any. I don't even have fish any more.

I provided a link in the thread to the product.

Oh my bad! Sorry I didn't see that!

Thanks.

I don't know any American pet shops but I looked at Amazon.com and it seems to (normally) be sold without a vet's prescription.

I tried to find a listing of ingredients on this item to see if it contained chloroquine phosphate. I did find one article that claimed it was composed of two solutions: Formalin (Part A) and Methylene Blue (Part B).

Formalin: A 37% aqueous (water) solution of formaldehyde, a pungent gas, with the chemical formula HCHO, used as an antiseptic, disinfectant, and especially today as a fixative for histology (the study of tissues under the microscope).

Methylene blue, also known as methylthioninium chloride, is a medication and dye. As a medication, it is mainly used to treat methemoglobinemia. Specifically, it is used to treat methemoglobin levels that are greater than 30% or in which there are symptoms despite oxygen therapy.

Methylene blue was introduced as an antimalarial medication in 1891. It was the very first synthetic, rather than natural, compound ever used in clinical therapy. As an antimalarial, methylene blue has been replaced by its derivatives, mepacrine and chloroquine.

So if I am interpreting this correctly, this product does not contain chloroquine. But it does contain formaldehyde. I wonder how many people would be willing to drink a teaspoon of formaldehyde?

----------------------------------------------------

But that brings up another very interesting point.

Preppers are very resourceful and innovative. Many feel that in a great cataclysm they will need medicine such as antibiotics. Now since most medical doctors do not write prescriptions for drugs for an end of the world situation, preppers have discovered that almost the same drugs are available as fish/animal medication. And obtaining drugs through this approach is easier.

So if you want access to a drug such as chloroquine, one might obtain such medicine on-line without having to go through a doctor.

So the basic question, THAT ALL THE REPORTERS, failed to report is EXACTLY what did she take? If she took a fish tank cleaner like the one above, she did not take chloroquine, the reporters failed the public and rightly should be labeled as FAKE NEWS. [perhaps she read an article that said chloroquine could be obtained as fish tank cleaner and assumed any fish tank cleaner contained chloroquine.

Or did she buy a very special fish medication called chloroquine phosphate, store it on a shelf for years and self medicate with it. Most preppers don't want to die. They would be very meticulous about taking the right dosage.

Hmmm... well, that attempt at fishy Wanda themed humour appears to have fallen face first into the midden. :P

Think if I open my mouth wide enough I might be able to fit the other foot in...

Sadly, I've heard of people snorting formaldehyde (embalming fluid) in the past. Some people are nuts.

Actual embalming fluid? Both formaldehyde and embalming fluid are used as slang to refer to PCP.

I saw it on an episode of Six Feet Under. Someone stole embalming fluid from the funeral directors to snort. I can't remember if it was cut with something else. I looked into it at the time and it's an actual thing, grossly enough.

People have snorted human ashes, too ... to "remember" their loved ones.

I wouldn't exactly count on TV shows for accurate depictions of reality.

It's usually dissolved in water, commonly as a product called '100% formalin'. It's typically present as a liquid or gas; it's not exactly 'snortable' at room temperature.

It made me snort.

You just didn't hear it because I live across the pond.

You're doing a great job deflecting from Dear Leader's failures by deflecting to issues from over a century ago.

Blood from recovered coronavirus victims helps patient come off ventilator in just two days
In trial, 10 severely-ill patients made recoveries after receiving antibodies from people who had successfully fought the Covid-19 virus

A coronavirus patient was able to come off ventilation just two days after receiving the blood plasma of people who have recovered from the virus in a breakthrough described as "remarkable" by scientists.

The first trials looking at whether antibodies of people who have successfully fought the virus can help others do the same found that all 10 severely ill patients made a speedy recovery.

The treatment, known as convalescent plasma (CP) therapy, was used during the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic before vaccines or antivirals were available.

Indeed, this will be one of the most helpful treatments, at least for the foreseeable future. And the great thing about it is that most healthy people who recover can donate. We'll be able to save lives regardless of whether we're medically trained or not, rich or poor, famous or unknown. Each of us has the potential to become a hero.
