Well I've had enough of this, it's obvious games don't influence people, so I'm going to put on a red jumper and blue dungarees and go save a Princess.....

Go to a video game or comic con and you will get your wish.

Now that you mention it I'm going to go to Saffron City and fight of Team Rocket with my partner Pokemon.

I blame people who piss other people the f*** off as the primary cause of mass shootings. If enough people made a reasonable effort to stop being such a dick all the time, maybe we'd make progress.

So the basic argument I see here is that a certain amount of killing is just something to put with...just can't do anything about it.

Unfortunately, that is to some extent true.

If someone, for whatever reason, decides to kill another human being, there is little that can be done to stop them. They will find a way.

That is not to say that precautionary measures don't foil some attempted murderers or that such measures shouldn't be in place, but you have to stop and ask yourself wether a proposition will actually prevent murders or if it's just paranoia.

Whatever "media" it is you're blaming, I don't believe censoring it will help. Do you really believe a perfectly non-homicidal person will go on a killing spree after playing a violent videogame or watching a violent movie? And even if media is to blame, there really isn't any way to tell which media is to blame. Is it media that depicts violent acts leading to death (such as videogames) or media that depicts violent acts which would normally be fatal being endured and survived and passed off as comedic? (such as slapstick cartoons) Or maybe it isn't even something violent? Several people attempted murder after reading the catcher in the rye.

I don't think there is any one thing we can do to drastically reduce motivation for murder as people murder for very different reasons. (At least, as far as I can tell.)

Isn't it odd that a person with the siggie "Embrace your X-Men tendencies" claims that video games and now (indirectly) comics (at least the conventions) cause adverse behavior?

Where did I say this?

I said media influences people. That's all. Do try to pay attention....

CyborgUprising-remember when you were talking about music influencing violence? There's this band called Blood on the Dancefloor about bullying and the music video shows the kid in the video commiting a school shooting.

If anything, I would think that a like that music video would influence violence in schools rather than KMFDM or Ramnstein.

There are some hints of a growing self-awareness creeping into the gaming community. One gamer - Antwand Pearman, editor of the website GamerFitNation - has called for other players to join in a "Day of Cease-Fire for Online Shooters" this Friday, one week after the massacre.

Aww, now we're not shooting people in Black Ops on friday, what do we do? :(

Oh, we can always play Skyrim and behead some bandits with a sword

You can still play Campaign Mode, don't you worry.

Why do you enjoy killing in games?

Hate to break it to ya, but the majority of games in the gaming industry have violence.

I have to agree with this, I mean I've never wanted to do anything violent over a video game but I would be lying if I said I never ever wanted to cause harm to people who treated me like crap I never did but that seems more likely to make one go in that direction.

No, the majority of video games produced world wide are not violent. Perhaps the majority of the ones you enjoy are.

Why do you enjoy violence?
