At 20 minutes Cantwell says that the driver of the car was justified, that "the stupid animals didn't know how to get out of the way."
TY for posting that.
Watching this guy talk and carry on an interview was fascinating in a rather macabre way. It's like seeing a bizarre constellation of borderline PD fragments mixing with psychopathy to assemble something that just doesn't seem congruent and adapts to the moment with little regard for internal consistency.
Letting the far-right talk, like *this*, is how you shut them down.

I find it really fascinating that people with functioning brains somehow didn't think beforehand that there might be some negative consequences in their lives when they publicly out themselves as white supremacists. How can you go to a nazi rally and bring a bunch of guns with you, and let someone film you with those guns talking about how you might have to kill some people, and be SURPRISED when the police want to talk to you? What kind of pathology produces that sort of behaviour with zero insight/forethought on the consequences of one's own actions?

To be fair the speakers I heard interviewed were cooler heads and closer to center than this guy or his group. The idea of the 'Unite the Right' rally seemed to be to consolidate all of these diverse groups or at least get them together for dialog. From the look of things it was a waste in that a lot of the elements there were too far right, too neo-nazi, to fit into any sort of functional political system or have any coherent input. Any valid grievances they might have had were really better off carried or voiced by other people, ie. people who could carry a platform clean of unnecessary baggage like white supremacy or Zionist conspiracies.

Let's be honest now. White supremacy is the platform. You can't clean the platform of those elements because they are at the heart of the platform of these people's beliefs.

Don't mind him. He appears to only be trying to legitimize their cause just because he equates all anti-Nazis with Antifa.

They themselves called the rally "Unite the Right". From what I saw, the one thing that unites these various groups that showed up at the rally is white supremacy.

Exactly. I get the impression that the only people who are trying to legitimize their cause are -
A) White supremists and Nazis.
Or....
B) People who honestly don't care what they stand for as long as it pisses off the left wingers.

Racist is an absolute term. Like being pregnant or being alive, either you or you arent.
Just because someone is less obvious about thier racism, doesnt make the any less racist.

The 'right' is a spectrum and it spans right in the center from center-right libertarian and neo-liberal/neo-conservative all the way out to the kinds of boneheads and freaks that VICE was interviewing. There are some people who I'll listen to sometimes who I think are properly in the caution zone in that they'll have some guests who are in the green, some in the yellow/caution zone, and some clearly in the red, and it's good to know what all kinds of people think. Red Ice radio is pretty deep in the yellow and have been hitting the red more and more lately, Tara McCarthy's been a bit more to every part of that spectrum and I got to hear her interview with Pax Dickonson who was one of the to-be presenters at that rally. Not that I'd find myself anywhere near where Pax is politically but he also presented as night-and-day more moderate than Chris Cantwell, hence my suggestion that there was some amount of ideological spread and... also somewhat loaded in the title, if they all had exactly the same beliefs and baggage there'd really be nothing needing to be 'unite'd.
I think my thick intellectual skull finally gets it now - objectivity is for Nazi's - so whatever I said above clearly means nothing to at least a handful of posters, might mean nothing to you either for all I know, other than their perception that I'm trying to edify Nazi's or, by their apparent fondness of communism I'm promoting national socialism in another thread (PPR) by suggesting that fascism and communism are fundamentally the same thing (the reason I come to that conclusion - there's no way I could be possibly saying something good about fascism by comparing it to communism - *unless* the person reading it feels that's a favorable comparison; I personally don't consider 100 million plus murdered in the 20th century a good track record but - what do I know.....).

I have to hope that WP is a particularly bad environment to get a proper read out of how dire the situation is in the public sphere right now. If anything I'm learning to identify ideologues right now and, if people anywhere near me decide to go out and start killing each other in the streets, I'll know what kinds of personalities and signs to watch out for, when to shut up, and how to just make myself scarce or absent while they remove themselves from the gene pool - hopefully as far away from wherever I'm at as possible.

Nope. Most people on the left and the right are against you on this one. Nazis made their bed. Complacency in the face of National Socialism caused the Holocaust. You wish to be complacent in the face of National Socialism. Therefore, you are on their side whether you want to admit it or not.

If those center-right libertarians were in fact at that Unite the Right rally, why didn't they just tell the Nazis to leave?

It's called "we'll side with anything to piss off the left". Pretty common around here.

Sadly, they have little idea - or perhaps they could care less - about what they've just ushered in, as long as they piss off liberals.

Many people refuse to understand that things stop being partisan issues once the POTUS attacks people who make a stand against Nazis.
