Yes, we know that said girl has an uncurable disease, but still, it is in my opinion as someone who views life higher then anything, that she be allowed to live until she can no longer, and To Hell with the DNR. Tell the parents that they're UWTR and SNABTAS. That's just my opinion.
I think that if House were here, he'd make sure he could do whatever he could to fix her problem, because as much of a Horses ass he is, he's got a great heart, vicodin or no vicodin.
good thing is CP its self does not progress... Someone like house needs to stop whatever is progressing on this girl... I give her priority for house... I'd rather die first than see an article on her death.

i don't know but these kind of parents sicken me... If she were my daughter I would want them to do anything to keep her Alive. Its not like she is in a coma for 6 years... the parents should have another type of DNR issued to them a Do Not Reproduce order

Aye.
And if that's how much they love her, to give her a DNR, then apparently they truly don't love her.

Gamester i fully agree... because if she were my daughter i would want her to receive any medical care needed to stay alive... and if she had to stay in the hospital i wouldnt leave that hospital room, i would be right there with her through everything... these parents appear to be looking to abandon and just be done dealing with her... if they really want to be done, sign her up for adoption... oh and call me when you find that shes open cuz ill have my parents pick her up id love to have a little sister.

If I knew where this was, I'd check to see if I had any contact support in the area, and have them talk with the parents. Working for the military, I have contacts in a lot of strange places, and they're very useful...........specially those in intelligence.
But yeah. I totally agree, those parents don't seem to want to have anything to do with her. My parents when I was younger and diagnosed stood by me, helped me, disciplined me(a lot) but it helped. It helped me be the person I am today. I'm guessing that the little girl's parents parents(any easier way to say that, someone please tell me) must not have taught them to be supportive of people who are different, and it sickens me. truly and utterly.

location is lake county Illinois.
i agree i think the parents just dont want anything to do with her anymore i think they are thinking to themselves "why did we have to get the disabled one" personally i think the parents are terribly wrong...
if she were my daughter i would explain to her what a DNR is and ask HER what she thinks of it... i know she would instantaniously say FORGET IT!! !
i would want to be at her side the whole way and these parents definitely dont want to... i personally think you should call around in the area for some help, i do not want to see any obituary with this girls name on it... not until i hear about her 90th birthday...

I am generally in favor of people deciding to put a Do Not Resuscitate order on themselves. This case is different because the girl was a minor and her parents, not her, made the decision to put a DNR order on her.
While I may not have all the facts in the case, if the girl's condition had progressed to a point where a) she was more debilitated than ever before and b) no longer conscious of reality, the girl's parents may well have acted in the best interests of the girl. They are her parents, who gave birth to her, and under those circumstances, they would be best qualified to make that decision.
However, if the girl had simply gone unconscious and there was a high chance that she could have been resuscitated and thereafter returned to her prior state for the most part, and back to consciousness, a decision not to resuscitate would have, in my opinion, been a major error. Let's say you had a broken arm, and your parents didn't like your suffering from that broken arm. Then somehow you became unconscious, and they pulled the plug, so to speak-- simply so that you would not suffer from that broken arm anymore. If they did that, it would be absurd, obviously, and a major mistake. If it is the case that this is what happened: to put it simply, a disabled person went unconscious for a while, and they were allowed to die, for no good reason. CP is just one of a number of disabilities. Yes, it is debilitating, but there are many people living to their fullest with CP. If she could have been revived and restored to what was normal for her, our medical system in the United States should have been able to provide care for this little girl's lifelong medical problems.

agreed... a DNR on yourself initiated by yourself is perfectly ok... but placing a DNR on a minor and also without receiving any input from that minor is not acceptable...
and this type of DNR is saying that for a simple possible cardiac arrest where a defibbrilator could bring back to normal state prohibits use of a defibbrilator is completely unacceptable... i know vast numbers of people who live a full life even though they have a medical condition, and i am one of them... i dont have no big yellow DNR form on the back of my wheelchair, and nor is a DNR going to ever become one of the accessories on my powerchair...

Goood. Good for you.
Yar.
If I had a heart issue and I had an attack, I would want to live again.
Still, some good may come of this.
With the fact that it's got us up in arms, then think about the outside world, what they're reactions might be. I haven't seen anything in papers recently(as of this month, or the week preceding the end of November) so apparently either this is not newsworthy, or else it's being hushed up.
Opinions?

Well, bless all of your hearts...
Strapples, have you talked to your parents about this case? It seems to have touched you very personally, and you're very upset about it. You have focused on only part of this girl's condition and not others. One thing people did not pick up on is that this little girl is in hospice care.
One does not go into hospice care unless time is running out and the person usually has six months or less to live. This is regardless of medical intervention.
She probably has infections that do not respond to antibiotics, and she is not able to recover from them completely, and there's lung or nerve damage. I can think of several related conditions that can also cause deterioration in this case.
I am glad you are not in this child's situation, and you do recover and respond well to medical treatment.
Please take care of yourself, and talk to your parents about this. Life is not easy, period, and we need all the support we can get.

*laughing hysterically*
respond to medical condition.... recover... yeah... right!! ! check my website please, i have a neurological disease that is very rapidly progressive...
at some point my case is going to look exactly like this... if not worse. but i do NOT want a DNR strapped to the back of my wheelchair for ANY reason... i find that a DNR is not a useful thing when someone is this young. you dont know what the future holds for this case...
