Consider:

Moving Christmas to June officially would move the economic boost of Western and Broadly christian nations to the centre of the year.. two months after the start of the financial year, for example.Surely that would have an effect on the modern world? It would change the whole industry of Christmas as well.

And it occurs to me that for those who say miracles are a load of hogswash or im[possible or any one of a thousand other excuses.. for those who doubt resurrection, or all hte other bumf.. consider who you are talking about. He's the son of god. Y'think he gives a s**t about physics and all that toss? He can happily defy any rule he likes.. son of a god. Thus, claiming miracles are a load of s**t is pointless.

It disturbs me that people have such an issue with old Jeebers. He's just this guy, you know, who basically said "be nice already.. get on, dont be a bunch of f*****s" and got killed for it. Son of God or not, prophet or not, he espoused a decent philosophy. People let Christianity get in the way of it all. I'm pretty sure Jesus and Buddha would have got on pretty well. His birthday is, by definition, a season of GOOD WILL. Why be such a***holes about it?

I second that very strongly. You've put into words what I could not.

The point is that his real birthday has finally been figured out. There's nothing wrong with celebrating it during the winter solstice. In fact, festivals of all kinds are very good. What's life without a few days of celebration? :)

Peace.

Cute theory, yet without any practical application or relevancy to modern-day issues.

On one hand it seemed a little odd, for an astronomer (a scientist) to come up with a theory like that, if he first would have to assume that the story stated in the Bible actually happened, in order to make the calculation.

On the other hand, one can assume that the astronomer might not actually believe it, but could see the possibility of the conjunction happening that could lead to people at the time to relate that to the story of Christ, if it happened around that time.

There is the issue related to the Wise men story, it has been stated by some scholars that the story probably should be considered apocryphal, along with the infanticide massacre, considering that the gospel of Luke doesn't mention any of this for example.

I wonder if the same could be said about the LHC experiment, or any research into finding evidence for dark matter.

My theory is when Christianty was being introduced into Europe they changed the dates to fit with the pagan festivals so it could take over. Like easter eggs and rabbits don't have anything to do with jesus, I think it was some sort of pagan festival.

Also Christmas matches the same day as a Pagan festival called Yule I think.

^Yeah I read more on the yule links Greyhound posted and I think there is a lot of correlation between pagan festivities and religion. They all seem to intertwine.

Jesus was a Gemini...accept it.

i'm one of those that disprove in 'false worship', if you worship god or jesus you're not going to get the best out of life whereas if you follow the philosophy it isn't a problem.

if i were to come up with a new philosophy on life would people assume i'm an idol such as god, or at least his son? i have never once said jesus was a bad bloke, i think he was someone who got mixed up in the wrong thing and got punished for trying to help people. i don't worship martin luther king jr yet i think he was a great man, and thinking about it his life/death was similar to jesus.

is that because you're more of a summer person or is there a different reason?

I was born April 18th and my birthday is celebrated on that day every year. It's like clockwork. I can say I've never missed a birthday, and this is the oldest I've ever been.
