Our lockdown rules are a trifle repressive. That's not the president's fault but the ones under him who implement more specific policy. Our president's doing a great job.

I had to go for a bit of a walk/jog yesterday and feel much better for it. Just the freedom it brings to see wildflowers in nature. Technically against the rules so I went to where there are miles of mountain bike tracks, quite nearby. Saw one cyclist (twice) but he ignored my existence when greeted. Walked behind a police car on the way back, and past some private security vehicles but they're not taking notice of folk out on their own. Besides, I could be on my way to get groceries - which is allowed. When I saw how busy the shop was I gave it a miss- too crowded. Better in the early mornings!

Some supermarkets here have queues (keeping 2 metres apart) at busy times as they're limiting to 50 people inside at a time. They are kind enough to provide deckchairs for the elderly who have to wait. Spar, however, doesn't seem to have a limit but have other measures in place.

There are signs that the crisis may be abating some in my town. As repoted to me by someone who was out shopping yesterday evening; The grocery store was about 40% stocked with toilet paper. And the convenience store had about 50 bottles of hand sanitizer.

Our local supermarket only allows about 20 people at a time.

The line outside moves pretty fast, though.

People are allowed to walk or run for exercise. There are no police patrolling parks in my neighborhood.

People keep to the social distancing rules.

Washington State has had its curve flattened for at least a week. They had the first nationwide death.

I feel like the West will have restrictions eased earlier than in the East.

I've given up trying to get the discussion back on topic.

Yes they aren't really bothered about people walking on their own. And not bothered about what you're buying and whether it counts as essential or non essential as that can vary greatly from person to person. I don't see why a rule about "essential goods only" should apply - you should be able to purchase anything on the shelves.

I've seen an increasing number of people with masks of both the bought and handmade variety, in a great array of shapes and colours.

Hopefully. I think they are going with May 5th at this point to start getting the ball rolling again. It was March 31st, then April 17th, then April 30th iirc. There were signs on shops that had those various dates. Now they all say "closed until further notice".

I and the person walking me have not had any issues. And there have been plenty of police cars that have gone by. I was on about an hour long walk yesterday. There were few other pedestrians.

I was told by the someone who went shopping yesterday, that about 3 out of 10 people were wearing masks in the stores. All register stations in all the stores now have a temporary plexiglas barrier between the clerk and customers. Which is something that should have been implemented much earlier on in my opinion.

Trump suggested some restrictions, in some areas(?), might be removed by Easter.
I said at the time that Trump would reconsider that if things were still bad.

Guess what?
He reconsidered.

The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, is under fire for his pathetic response to the coronavirus. An online petition calling for the resignation of the embattled leader of the World Health Organization neared 1 million signatures early Sunday. I looked at the petition and was about to sign it, but rather than a legitimate petition, it appeared to me that your name would be added to the petition only if you agreed to donate money. So it was a money maker masked as a legitimate petition.

I am going to venture to T&T which usually had a good stock of medical gloves and if they are in stock Im gonna donate them to Participation House. In my opinion PSWs being left no choice but to abandon a bunch of disabled vulnerable adults for lack of protective equipment is a disgrace for a city like this.....

where everyone and their poodle is walking about in gloves and medical grade masks..

N the govt had no issue delivering (without being asked) big box of many disposable isolation gowns ...gloves ...masks n goggles when we had a simple cold n not even confirmed Covid19 like those ppl!! !

The novel coronavirus that has forced "shelter in place" orders throughout much of the U.S. might spread as far as 13 feet in the air, twice the distance people are currently advised to maintain from each other to avoid infection, according to an early release of a study by Chinese researchers.

The study published Friday in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Emerging Infectious Diseases journal builds upon warnings that the virus may be aerosolized, or spread in the air through respiratory droplets.

Source: Early study shows coronavirus traveling farther than social-distancing rules recognize

I remembered in the news that there was a doctor that said the COVID-19 produces a dry type of pneumonia which is different than other types of pneumonia. It produces a dry cough.

According to the Internet: Phlegmy (wet) vs. dry cough. Bacterial pneumonia is the most common type of pneumonia, so it’s important to pay attention to your cough. A phlegmy cough is most common with bacterial pneumonia, while a dry cough is typically associated with viral pneumonia.

So it makes a lot of sense that a bacterial pneumonia droplets would be heavier and fall to the ground quickly; whereas a viral pneumonia with dehydrated droplets would be aerosolized and travel to a much greater distance.

So I almost appears to me that the individuals that discounted the wearing of face mask used the symptoms of bacterial pneumonia instead of the symptoms of viral pneumonia. Those recommendations were wrong. The best approach to dealing with this coronavirus is to wear mask such as N95 that filter out these small viral particles and combine with indoor humidification that when absorbed by the dried particles add weight to the particles and drive these particles to the ground quickly to limit their spread.
