Emergence of a Deadly Coronavirus
For Charles Vavruska, it was nothing short of a miracle cure.
Days after the 53-year-old City Council staffer arrived at New York Presbyterian-Queens hospital barely able to breathe and tested positive for COVID-19, doctors started him on the controversial drug cocktail of hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malarial, and azithromycin, an antibiotic.
Although Vavruska said he felt almost immediately better, he wishes the urgent-care doctor he went to see in the early days of his flu-like symptoms in mid-March could have prescribed a similar treatment before he grew progressively worse and ended up in a hospital room, hooked up to an oxygen tank and fighting for his life.
It’s an opinion shared by President Donald Trump and a growing cadre of physicians and some infectious diseases experts who believe that an effective way to control the spiraling pandemic is to prescribe the anti-malarial at the first sign of symptoms even though it has not gone through the requisite number of clinical trials.
Last week, the American Society of Thoracic Surgeons issued guidelines for doctors to use the anti-malarial if they are in the advanced stages of the coronavirus, but some physicians say that it needs to be administered long before that.

That is what I hear too. It is extremely important to treat those infected early on and not just when they are admitted to the hospital and put onto a ventilator. When you are put on a ventilator you are at death's door and very little can bring you back at that point.
If you have to wait until you are admitted to the hospital before you are eligible for treatment and the government is deciding who will get admitted; then the government is de facto determining who lives and who dies, especially if the treatment option is determined to be a viable one in the future. The determination of using treatment options should really lie in the hands of the doctor and the patient. The government should not put up roadblocks to treatment options but rather offer advice and guidance.
I have read that hydroxychloroquine and Metformin are incompatible.
If true, those with type II diabetes can't use it, while on the medication.
Fauci: China misled the world; virus erupted in mid-December
Dr. Anthony Fauci says that human-to-human transmission of COVID-19 diseases erupted in China in mid-December, yet the communist regime told the U.S. and the world that the virus was only transmitted animal-to-human.
Dr. Fauci, an influential member of President Trump’s coronavirus task force, told the Fox News show “Watters’ World” over the weekend that as the disease spread to more people in mid-January in Wuhan and the surrounding Hubei province, the Chinese government said that human contagion was minimal, a fact that shaped for weeks the outside world’s sense of the danger and the appropriate response.
Both assertions were “clearly not correct … that was misinformation right from the beginning,” he said.
COVID-19 was, in fact, a highly contagious and deadly disease.
“Early on we did not get correct information, and the incorrect information was propagated right from the beginning,” Dr. Fauci said.
Republicans have accused the Chinese Communist Party, the dictatorship ruling the country, of deliberately concealing the virus’ spread. Chinese authorities threatened eight doctors with prison for trying to warn the world on social media about what would become a global pandemic.
The White House says that while China was hiding disease facts, it was also buying up lots of medical equipment around the world. When COVID-19 spread to other nations and began sickening and killing patients, China’s propaganda machine went into action, making the unfounded assertion that the U.S. Army planted the virus in Wuhan.
Dr. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, had himself relied on the Chinese disinformation to downplay COVID-19’s threat to America.
“This is not a major threat for the people in the United States, and this is not something the citizens of the United States right now should be worried about,” he told Newsmax as late as Jan. 21, when the virus began spreading on the West Coast.
Dr. Fauci told “Watters’ World” on Saturday that “it was in January, at a time when the Chinese were saying first that it was only going from an animal to a human and then, when there were human cases, that [they] looked like they were … inefficiently transmitted. It was at that time in mid-January that we made the statement.”

There are a variety of medications to treat diabetes other than Metformin.

I believe that a HEPA type air filter will remove viruses and bacteria from the air in a room size area.
I believe that a UVC type sanitizer will eliminate viruses by destroying their ability to infect a person.
I have been using the UVC air sanitizer for about 2 months solid now in our bedroom. The air is really fresh and when I wake up in the morning my lungs feel really clean and good. I described this type of UVC air sanitizer in the following: Practical Preparations for a Coronavirus Pandemic
In a worst case scenario COVID-19 is reported to stay airborne for 30 min and travel up to 4m (this is based on one Chinese study on alleged infection on a bus).
Under normal circumstances you have to be < 2 metres away from a vector (carrier) and be in the vicinity of that person for a certain amount of time so there is absolutely no evidence you need an air filter if your neighbor or somebody walking on the footpath is hypothetically a carrier.
A “huge influx” of COVID-19 patients is putting a strain on hospitals in Moscow as Russia begins to tally more casualties from the deadly virus, the Kremlin said Saturday.
Moscow, along with other regions in Russia, has been under lockdown for nearly two weeks to curb the spread of COVID-19. Up through April, Russian officials were claiming to have the situation under control. But the country’s fortunes took a turn for the worse last week.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a Russian media outlet that the situation in Moscow and St. Petersburg is “quite tense because the number of sick people is growing.”
"There is a huge influx of patients. We are seeing hospitals in Moscow working extremely intensely, in heroic, emergency mode."
As of Sunday, Russia has 15,770 confirmed cases with 130 deaths, according to the latest figures from the Johns Hopkins University. Officials have said it remains unclear whether Russia has reached its worst point in the outbreak.

Mainland China reported 108 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, up from 99 a day earlier and marking the highest number of daily infections in more than five weeks amid continued rise in patients entering the country from overseas.
The National Health Commission said in a statement on Monday that the mainland reported 98 new imported cases, a record high and up from 97 a day earlier, and another 61 new asymptomatic patients.
Total number of confirmed cases in mainland China now stands at 82,160, while the death toll rose by two to 3,341.
China reports 108 new coronavirus cases in mainland vs 99 day earlier
I wonder how many of these new cases are Chinese nationals and Chinese students returning back to China?
Hmmmm! Maybe this is the answer:
More than half of the coronavirus infections reported by China on Sunday stemmed from a Russian flight to Shanghai on April 10, underscoring the possible severity of the outbreak in Russia.
Shanghai’s Municipal Health Commission said 51 of 52 imported cases on Saturday were of Chinese nationals who were diagnosed to have Covid-19 after they landed in the city. The travelers accounted for more than half of 97 imported infections China disclosed on Sunday morning. No other information was provided about the flight.
Ninety-two people linked to the Russian flight have been tracked and quarantined, Shanghai authorities said. It’s not clear why the Chinese nationals were in Russia.
Russia has emerged as a fresh source of imported virus infections for China, which seems to have tamed its own outbreak and has now pivoted toward staving off cases from elsewhere. China has grounded all but one inbound flight per week for foreign airlines in a bid to limit imported cases, but new infections have also found their way back to the country through land borders, especially the one with Russia.
China isn’t alone in reporting imported infections, which have increasingly accounted for an increase in confirmed virus cases for some countries as their governments bring citizens home from abroad to protect them from outbreaks in those nations.
China’s northeastern Heilongjiang province has reported more than 100 imported infections from Russia at its land borders so far this month.
Russia is tightening a lockdown of its capital amid a worsening spread of the virus that is straining local health systems. On Sunday, the country reported the number of new coronavirus cases increased by 31% overnight to 2,186. That took the total to 15,770. Twenty-four deaths related to Covid-19 were reported, double the count in the previous period and bringing the nation’s total to 130.

Yes you did. In January... you, eikonabridge, and a few others took this threat seriously.
Others laughed at the idea that it could become a pandemic. They aren't laughing now.

The CIA Informed Trump that a pandemic was likely as far back as November 2019 so you can include him in the group of naysayers

We scoffed at the idea of it being a plague that would infect 80% of the population kill many millions in a matter of weeks. That has not changed any.

Something is bothering me. It is an anomaly, a very big anomaly.
We now know that COVID-19 is highly contagious. We also know that perhaps as much as 50% of those that become infected are asymptomatic (do not show symptoms).
Beijing, China is the world's most populous capital city, with over 21 million residents. The city only had 587 confirmed cases and 8 deaths.
16.9% of the population in Beijing is over age 60
The numbers just don't add up. It defies logic.
