Actually the people killed at Salem were hanged by the neck until dead. :nerdy:

Not all died by hanging at Salem. While nineteen people (mostly women) were hanged, five died in prison (bad conditions) and one was crushed to death with heavy stones (tortured) to try to get a confession from him. A common method in Europe at the time for testing witches was to try to drown them with weights. If they sank and died, they were deemed innocent. If they floated and survived, they would often be burned instead. Either way, the person was doomed. Those that practiced science were almost always suspected of being in cahoots.

There have been studies that hallucinations brought on by accusers were likely due to natural poisoning of their food by fungi. They had a rather rotten method of storing their grains, leading to exposure to moisture. Ergot can form hallucinogenic compounds upon fermenting grain.

Side note: If you ever come across a silver coin from that era (example, pine tree shilling) from America, it is often bent. This was commonly done around the Salem area. The bent coin was to ward off those practicing witchcraft.

but you have that all-important piece of paper and professional status which makes other professional types [docs/lawyers/engineers and such] treat you like an adult and not somebody non-compos-mentis or at the very best, as a riff-raffy lumpenprole.

Apparently horn-man didn't invade the Capitol - he just walked in and sung a song to create positive vibrations.
That didn't work out too well.

Yeah this thread and the alien thread (whatever happened to that?) are unable to be locked as they provide a public service

our national case of trumporrhea has become a double-edged sword in that while it has done us the favor of outing all the sociopaths, it has also, by dint of that outing, made us look like a bunch of fools to the rest of the world.

I don’t believe that Buffalo Hat Man is innocent of a crime even if he did not technically break in to the Capitol.
Walking in or not, he did not belong there, was not ‘touristing’, he was unauthorized, therefore committed a crime. You commit a crime, like trespassing on Federal property, you get arrested and charged.

Adopt a Capitol Rioter...

What's next, action figures? Complete with the Mike Pence gallows.
