They portrayed themselves as heroes; freedom fighters!
They just stole, made a mess, and hurt people!

they basically crapped all over the sine qua non of our democracy. akin to a desecration or sacrilege.

I think that is what they intended.
But they looked ridiculous and petulantly destructive.

we better be glad they looked ridiculous because if they were pros of the type that could have killed our democracy in the last century [businessmen's plot of '33 which would have been led by marine general smedley butler and his marines, if he were that type which thankfully he was not] we'd be under martial law now.

Those pranksters and protesters were comprised of some people who wanted to make a VERY loud political statement, and SOME people who were from some EXTREMELY not-funny groups.
Not harmless at all.

those capital rioters basically want what was the junta government and society of latin america in the 70s. why, is a continuing mystery to sane people.

I do understand what you are saying and how you see the clear result.
However, I don’t think that they see it.
The people leading them have them totally fooled.
They think they are demonstrating/fighting FOR individuality and freedom.

because 1] they think they will be the elect who is exempt from the rules, and 2] if they lose their freedom they are secure in the knowledge that the POC/lefties/women/LBBTQ will have it even worse.
