There was a period here in NZ when couples were adopting kids from those horrid romanian orphans. some of those kids developed severe behavioral problems in adolescence, despite now being in stable homes with loving parents. the source of their problems has been traced back to the abuse and neglect they experienced in the orphanages.

One famous case involves twin girls who left home to live on the street. Their parents tried to get them to move back in, and they would visit regularly to eat meals, change clothes and so on, but they refused to "live under a roof". One of them got hit by a car and later died in hospital.

Or orphanage workers were killing and trying to kill the orphans. Strapples had an orphanage worker in Sibiu, Romania try to kill him, but they wiped most of his early memory, but in retrospect that might have been a good thing as he is a really smart and nice guy.

Are you talking about Strapples, the WP member? 8O

Yes that Strapples.

Yes I did read about Strapples horrific story involving the orphanage. Anyway I'm glad he got adopted by a seemingly loving family.

Poor kid.. :(

I have never heard that story.

You haven't?

I heard it quite a while back from him and I think it's in his blog. I don't know about his memory being erased though... :?

Anyway I'd suggest just asking him about it, he is the resource of this topic we're discussing after all.

Yes, people are generally... well, not so bright, as you can see putting the blame on the adopted parents, so that is to be expected when they read news about this, not to mention believing anything they read as it literally were. So yeah, usually, people who get judgemental in those situations would very likely have done the same thing and probably earlier.

What if your birth child threatened to kill you, do you put him/her on a flight or do you try and get help?

On a flight to Russia of course!

He may need help, but why send the person back to where he may have developed these behaviours?

hmmm, because sending him back to Russia he would not be able to kill her by burning the house? so she might have thought.

I would not be so quick to side with this person either.

I would not be so quick to judge this person either, however, given the psychological issues that most abandoned kids may have at a certain age, I would say that adopting a 6 or 7 year old would not be such a good idea after all. Yeah, poor kids, but unless you are a saint, an activist, properly trained or perhaps even a masochist, then I would suggest the best idea for adoption would be either babies if possible or give up.

IMHO.

Well, I recall hearing about this story and somwhat consider the motive behind the mother's adoption of the child for, if she was sincere than I doubt she would have tried to ship him back per se so quickly without even trying to resolve the situation..Yes, it was stated the child had emotional troubles this being said of the adoptive mother but, if such was true and she willing knew of such and did not want to adopt but rather pretend to than that is unethical..Well, I hope that now this young boy is in a sincere, comforting place..

I think adoption has both postive & negative parts that make it up but, if one is sincerely willing to be a compassionate & understanding parent I feel the benefits outway the the minuses.. :salut:

People should adopt from their own country first. Sad but some people are not meant to be parents.
