I guess it is a freedom of speech issue...but where do you you draw the line from naming a child an abusive name which questions the sanity and intentions of the parents and the freedom to name your own child whatever you want. It is a really fine line between abuse and freedom to name a child such a name. But what is there to stop the baby name police from nabbing some kid with a name that they just dont like even if it is not insane. Things like this are slippery slopes of civil liberties.

What about using the names of murder victims? Is there an issue against that too?

I went to school with a Sharon Tate. How many murder victims can you remember? They aren't known for their notoriety.

can't think of that many noteworthy murder victims, but if it was someone like Sharon Tate it could be seen as a tribute.

what about naming a child something like Dysentery or Melanoma?

I don't see why you'd complain about this. "Oh no, these parents were stupid enough to make their racist views public by what they named their kids! Now they won't get to raise them to believe the same ignorant views!"

The only thing about Sharon Tate that I can think of is her snorting Cocaine like it was going out of business, and this is all the while she was pregnant.

I was rather surprised to find out that in this country all babies have to have their names approved by the tax office. You don't inform the authorities of your baby's name, you seek permission for it. 8O
