By what historians know, Hitler at least suspected he had some Jewish ancestry, that he had his genealogy investigated. Officially, nothing was found, which we know now was a crock, as the name Solomon appears in his family tree. Still, after the conquest of Austria, Hitler had his hometown evacuated, then shelled as target practice - in particular the hall of records.
Whereas Rheinhard Heydrich, who had been the number two man in Hitler's SS, and the man who gave to the world the concept of gas chambers in concentration camps, was acutely aware of his own Jewish ancestry. And so was everyone else. Heydrich had had to do some creative writing in his family tree to hide this after joining the SS. Once, after a night of hard drinking, Heydrich went back home, when his SS friends heard him shout" "Die you Jew looking bastard!" followed by gun shots. Rushing inside, they found Heydrich standing there with a smoking gun, having shot a mirror.
