Summary execution as performed by the US military. Murder or war crime, either way it rather reduces the moral position that the US is "civilized" and that other places are "barbaric" or "uncivilized". Add that to some of the things Americans think should have been done to him/his corpse..is it any wonder that so many Middle Easterners etc think the US is evil?

Good riddance. It's about time they got this Motherf***er. I would've preferred him rotting in jail 23 hours a day on lockdown though or perhaps some tender lovin from the other inmates hahaha.

Explaination for 'Other':

While a part of me is glad that he's gone, I'm also not happy that he wasn't captured alive. --With OBL now being dead, he will no doubt be celebrated as a martyr amongst Islamic extremists, which is a concern.

I'm glad he's gone ,but it's one of those things that raises more questions then answers. I'm hoping they release photos and actually explain more in-depth about what happened.

Someone killed bin Laden?

I read it here first and had to go take a look at CNN.com to see if it was real or not. I actually feel kind of indifferent about it although his demise is a very good riddance. He killed so many people but will become a martyr in the eyes of the fanatics and someone else will move in to take his place before long. It will only serve as a goal for every terrorist wannabe to become the biggest bully on the block. Now we will hear about it non-stop on the news for the next few months until the next big story comes along... and there will be all the made for TV movies and documentaries on the subject describing in detail stuff like his stomach contents and last meal before it happened. I wonder if the guy who shot him will ever have the nerve to step up to the plate and place a huge target on his own back? I definitely know what my mom will be talking about on the phone tonight.

It's a pity he was not soaked in pork fat, cremated and his ashes spread on a pig farm.

Give that SEAL a bucket of fish and a ball to play with, well done it takes ten years for one seal to do a good job!

He must have used a pop gun since he looks pretty innocent.

I think its sad that a life is lost but i also feel he got what was coming to him ... yet i do fear what will come out of this by people loyal to him.

Here is proof of the power of symbolism.

bin Laden had long since ceased to be a real and present threat--his communication with followers was limited to a very safe, but highly inefficient system of couriers, resulting in his being cut off from any operational control over al qaeda activity.

But the symbolic power of taking out a largely irrelevant leader is still massive.

Is there even any proof he is dead?

His death will ultimately be proven to be more symbolic than anything else. I don't think Islamic terrorism will be reduced just because bin Laden is dead.

I believe that it is wrong to kill (except in cases such as euthanasia), and not only that but his murder will make his followers VERY angry, and the chances of them NOT pulling of SERIOUS attacks on America, if not elsewhere, are basically nil. But the most shocking thing, I think, is the reaction of the American people. It shows what an f'd up society it is over there partying in the streets because he got killed? No matter what he was responsible for; that's SICK.
