I love weightlifting and gymnastics. Will watch the wrestling final soon, too.

I am sad to see boxing is just as rigged in the Olympics as it is in America. The sport needs to be shut down and get cleaned out to get competent judges and ones not driven by bribes.

Disgusting bouts last night. Pro boxing the UK isn't that bad, but obviously amatuer boxing internationally has been heavily corrupted.

1.) Is there some formula to determine how much injury time is added to the end of a soccer half? I never understood that.

2.) I am watching boxing again to see how bad it gets.

Epke Zonderland was absolutely breathtaking in the men's individual highbar. He performed the most difficult combination in the world. Him and Ilya Ilin, the weightlifter from Kazakhstan, are my favourite Olympians of this game so far. You miss out on so much if you only watch events that your country qualifies for!

i am completely disinterested in the olympic games.
i am annoyed that so many of my TV channels are devoted to showing the games. i have a significantly (to me) reduced amount of sources of entertainment because of the games and i am dissatisfied with it.

i am glad that australia has won so few medals because our press will not ruminate over our wins. if we did well, then the life and times of all the successful athletes would be agonizingly investigated and related by our press for months.

i have no interest at all in any type of sport.

Injury time (or more accurately Stoppage time) is at the discretion of the referee, who keeps track of how long it's taken for injured players to be treated,or adds on time when he adjudges that players of the leading team have deliberately wasted time when taking throw-ins or free kicks etc. Usually when there'a a 4th official on the sidelines, the referee communicates the length of time to be added and the official holds up
a board to let everyone know.

Lucky you, our media probably won't shut up about it for months. After spending billions on it and getting very little of it back, I suppose the media will have to milk it as a "success" for as long as they can. I think the league table they have for amount of medals won is ridiculous as well, is my country better than yours just because a small number of people from here won more medals for sport? Also, the idea of someone winning "for their country". What did the rest of the country do to help them win? If there is going to be constant coverage for it then at least give the individuals the credit.

IMHO the [regular] olympics are just one big moneymaking racket [is there any other kind?] which for decades now, athletes have prostituted themselves, for selfish/mercenary reasons. i'm not the only one who feels this way, the late red smith, a pulitzer prize-winning sports columnist for the new york times, expressed the same sentiment in at least one column.

Some politically incorrect Olympic humour:

The Romanies have taken Gold, Silver, Bronze, Copper, Lead and any other metals they could sneak off with.

The results for the sailing: USA takes Gold, France takes Silver, Somalia takes a small cargo ship.

Australians are doing poorly in the track events; but if they had been able to run faster they wouldn't have been Australians in the first place.

Apologies if those have offend anyone - especially the Australians. :P

I admire the olympians just for having a go. Especially in situations like this. Sarah Attar is the first woman to compete for Saudi Arabia in the Olympics ever. I hope more will follow in future.

Everybody is really excited about Ashton Eaton here in Bend, Oregon, where I live. He won the gold medal while representing the United States in the decathlon at the 2012 Olympics, and he lives right here in Bend too. There's going to be a parade for him when he gets back.
