Unfortunately, there's quite a few tweets on Twitter about people's reactions to the shooter potentially having Asperger's...seems to be several every minute. Some are pretty hurtful but there's also a big number of tweets coming from people who know that Aspies are generally very kind-hearted. As long as it doesn't reach trending topic status, I think it'll be all right.

People need someone or something to blame and they are too lazy to find a real solution. No one knows why that kid killed his family and those children. No one will ever know. Anyone who pretends to know is ignorant. This kid might not have not even been autistic. All people are different and Autism/Asperger's is just a word to lump people with social skills problems into one great big group. It's discriminatory when it comes right down to it. Think of this discrimination along the same lines as racism. Don't fall for any of this. And know you don't have to conform to their stereotype of you. First off, you don't need to tell your employers or coworkers or fellow students that you have autism, it's really none of their business. Everyone struggles with something: Self-esteem issues, obesity, race, gender, sperm counts, religion, beliefs, marriage, career, family. Being nerdy shouldn't be an issue. Before we had mental disorders, people didn't go around grouping nerds with serial killers. If anyone asks, you tell them "I'm not autistic, I'm a nerd!"

My response to this. With a link to my response to the same stuff being said about the Aurora killer. http://paulacdurbinwestbyautisticblog.b ... ieves.html
I would hate if there was backlash. That's what I think when I think about how ignorant and scared people react. I remember watching Caprica and watching people get abusive to the parents of this girl who had died after setting off a bomb on a train, and thinking 'are people really like that?' At the time I thought BSG was just being over emotional but sometimes I think people are really like that.
Being half-Indian I copped a bit of that after 9/11 and a year back there was violence against Indian students.
I just hope there's some balance in the media between calling us all unempathetic and actually saying that we're most unlikely to do it. Even if the killer does have AS it doesn't mean we'll all do that. Even though I'm in Australia I'm scared for my little nephews and nieces.
And I understand that you can be bullied and rejected so severely to turn to something like this. When I explained this to my non-AS friend she said 'yeah, but you don't think about killing people, do you?'
I kind of went quiet. I think as a part of my PTSD I do have such thoughts. But it's more me defending myself.

Autistic people commit crimes at far lower rates than the general population. That includes Aspergers. Most of us have less desire for human companionship, so being shut out doesn't hurt as much as it does NT's. in a similar position. NT's also tend to direct their anger outwards while we tend to direct it inwards.
The problem is our country has a awful mix of bullying, inequality, and guns. Until we destroy all the guns, take inequality seriously, and start punishing bullying as a criminal misdemeanor, then we will have shootings. Bullying and being shut out of society causes people (NT's too) to lose their mind, and guns are too easy to get.
The autism rate in South Korea is twice what it is in the U.S., and I've never heard of a school shooting there.
Hopefully not, unless the news organizations start taking off with it. Go over to Fox News' facebook page. They are all blaming liberals, Atheists, and Obama. Kinda off topic, but I responded to your post because I'm listening to your album covers, these are really good.

This is true. We've all been bullied and rejected here but we're not about to go on a mass killing rampage. I would only ever defend myself when the situation called for it, and only to those who wish me harm. I would turn myself over to the cops before I ever hurt a child, or even an innocent bystander.
This attack was planned. It seemed to be directed at one person. Those poor kids, and the adults that died too.

What is this calling a person Satire?
Landover Baptist is an organization. They wrote a blog calling people with Asperger's evil. Someone labeled them as being satire or satirical. Not sure if their blog was satire or if they were just being radical and crazy.
Agreed. People try to understand evil and it doesn't work. It's like when people are idiotic enough to try to theorize about why the holocaust happened. There's no explanation, no reason why, and to try to rationalize it or even to try to come up with a reason why it happened is offensive to everyone affected by it.

Horrible conclusion. Although people can be evil, there is no explanation as to why. A lot of people have aspie traits. Many people don't. Both groups have members who do violent things. There is no correlation or causation.

Landover Baptist is a satire of radical Christian groups like the Westboro Baptist Church. Landover is most definitely not a real church, just a humor site much like the Onion.
